I'm sure we'll be able to make it functional with very little work. The aftermarket is designed to improve cars.

what are you talking about? The hood slit, or the gills?
Gills weren't cut out in the 1st gen, and the hood slit has always bee known to be non-functional. The hood latch is right behind it, and the intake is off to the side. EDIT: Please turn down your caps? We don't want the other threads complaining... |

I'm talking about the slit. No secret it was fake on the concept. But, I hoped they move it to the hood and make it functional.

what would it's function be? running air over the engine to help cool it? It's not really that big, so not a lot of air would make it through anyways? I think it's cool to have it be functional, but I don't really see how much of difference it could make.

You can add SS badges. I can't figure out how, but ricers with R stickers claim to be faster than ones without.

Dremel. Cut cut cut cut, add honeycomb/mesh of some kind, and you're done. I plan on setting up a short ram a lot like the ram jet fuel injection system (pic can be found here) and I think opening up the hood scoop will help make the overall temperature of the air coming through the intake a little bit cooler (instead of all that hot air from over the radiator).

Personally i agree. i think its stupid that scoop isnt functional.

You guys planning on cutting it out are probably going to be disappointing. It doesn't sound like it will be that easy. From the GM chat:
gss9909: why was the slit on the ss not made fuctional? I was really hoping for forced are. MikeAndJeff: It's a visual design feature. The reason it's not functional is it requires a large structural element behind it. |

Yes - I have a feeling said large structural element is the hood latch.

In this day and age, it's absolutely dumbass on a 400-420 hp car. I am getting mine professionally removed. Friggin embarrassing to be driving around with something so lame. If it worked, I could probably live with it but I hate the look anyways. Makes the front too busy. I would have rather them keep that area clean and add an SS specific hood.
