Boston Acoustic Premium 9 Speaker Stereo? OMG!

I bought a new 2013 2SS/RS with Boston Acoustic Premium 9 Speaker Stereo, Mylink, and Navigation last week, and over the weekend I had the speakers and amps upgraded, because to be honest, it really sounds much worse than my 2012 1LT Standard 6 Speaker stereo sounded.

The sound was muddy and shrill, it was just plain aweful for an upgraded sound system.

So while upgrading, we could not find 2 of the speakers at all. There are only 7 if you include the 2 front tweeters, and center channel speaker.

And the rear speakers were not anything special, just your typical paper whizzer cone speakers just like my 1LT had. Look at what they had installed:



Now how do they call whizzer cones attached to the rear deck 6 x 9's two extra speakers? There is only 1 coil on those speakers. Is this what everyone else received with their Boston Acoustic Premium 9 Speaker Stereo?

You are right those are not the speakers that come with the BA system. Looks like the the factory messed up.

The amp is there, in the left rear corner of the trunk.

Those are not the rear 6x9's that come with the BA Premium 9 speaker system. You should get with your dealership about that. You paid extra for that!

Hmm... Now I want to go look at mine..
My BA sounds horrible well below what I would consider decent even for a stock system..
wonder if I got crap speakers as well.

anyone have pics of what they are supposed to look like?
Both back and front of the speakers as mine are mounted still obviously.

NM mine look like that but do say "20984302 boston" on the GM bar code.
cheap speakers all the way around.

I had the premium BA in my ZL1, and when I upgraded, I pulled out the same paper cone crap. That is the upgraded BA speakers. I hate that I paid extra for that option, but it's not like I orderd the car with the upgraded stereo, it just happened to be on the showroom, and I went with that one.

the BA rear speakers should be 2 way (tweeter and bass) so yeah.. those are imposters!

obviously they changed the speakers in 2012 or 2013. what a rip off, they shouldn't put a brand name on a stereo system if it isn't the real deal. the amp probably works okay if you just replace the speakers.

I've read quite a few posts on other threads about how disappointed some forum members are with their Boston Acoustics Premium 9 speaker system. Wondering if those members had the same standard speakers instead of the ones that are supposed to come with the Premium speaker system. Never understood those negative reviews of the system, as the wife and I both drive camaros with the BA Premium 9 speaker system and we think that the system sounds very good as is.

Curious if you've talked to your dealership about this whole situation and what their response was.

I agree - my system sounds good after I added a trunk sub and disabled the center front. I did climb all over the car and took out the rear speaker. I have the 6 x 9 coaxial in my rear deck.
