I have the dealer stripes on now, but there are some flaws, so I had them re-order them. Then I started to think about having them painted on. I talked to the painter at two dealers and they said they would be honored to paint stripes on my car, they both were really stoked over it. The price was dirt cheap, I thought, $500.00. They would paint them as a side job, but at the dealers paint shop. My question is glossy black which would go under the clear or the flat satin stripes similar to the decals? I have the black on now, but I was also thinking about changing to white, what do you all think? It is a personal choice, just curious as to the thought s of others. I will post some photos too

i personally am getting the stripes painted on from my dealer and having them wrap over the spoiler. i was given an estimate of 1000 for it.

If you are going painted see about Ghost stripes. They really look nice and will distiguish your car from a run of the mill. Also look great!

As you say, it's a matter of personal taste. I went with glossy black aftermarket vinyl stripes on my RJT (still in QC). Whatever you go with, you've got a car to be proud of

I dont know much about automotive paint ,but i was thinking that If they were cleared over it woould come out glossy.The reason i say that is when i painted my WD passport drive to match my car ,the base coat was dull until i cleared over it.

you are right about the clear making it glossy, if i went with painted satin stripes the clear would not go over it. i will check into the ghost stripes and se if either of the painters want to take that on

you could go with a satin clear and do the ghost effect but with satin...

just because its cleared, doesn't mean it has to be glossy.

If you don't clear coat the entire body panels and just clear coat the stripes, you can use a Satin or Matte Clear Coat to get a similar finish as the factory black stripes.

As for ghost stripes, they are kind of like ghost flames on hot rods. You don't really see them unless the light hits them right. Kind of like this one I saw at a car show a couple of years ago:
