Cam Decision

Well I installed my headers and cold air few weeks back and now it's time for cam. I have an appointment next with a local place here in Houston. And I was wondering did I make the right choice of cam? Any thoughts? I'm looking for horsepower. My choice was 236/250. Positive on the intake side but may be wrong on exhaust side.

Who spec'd your cam? Did you walk them through how you use the car, how you want the car to drive/sound? Have you talked to the installer/tuner to make sure they can meet your goals with that cam? Have any of the professionals you talked to in this process told you that they don't think you have the right setup for what you want? Have you adequately considered supporting modifications?

Based upon the answer to the questions above you could be good to go or not.

There is a good chance that intake lobe won't clear and the Pistons will need fly cut depending upon valve events of course and assuming you are a m6 car

Man, so many comments lol. 500rwhp or close to it is my goal. Sound definitely want a nasty old man hacking on a cigar sound but not so much that I will lose hp. Late Model Racecraft is the facility I'm dealing with as far as tuner I don't know his/her name. They basically gave me 3 cams to choose from and now I'm thinking it's 236/245. It was the one that was in the middle. 231/-- or 239/250 was the other. I figured bigger cam more power. Before everyone jumps on that comment I know there's variables that would make that a false statement but generally speaking.

Your talking duration that's important yes but that's way too high for your second number and the LSA and lift are very important also as a lot of cams have longer durations due to having slightly lower lifts. All of those go hand in hand in determining the power and sound and drivability a cars engine will have. If you bought a TSP cam there website shows ls3 dynos on a little blue symbol by their specs in what you can expect.

Heres something helpful on LSA: http://www.compcams.com/Pages/413/ca...ion-angle.aspx

LMR is a quality shop and will be doing my cam pretty soon. They've done a lot of work for the people in the houston camaro club. I believe Stephen is the owner and does their tuning. If you picked one of the cams they recommended to you, after you walked through your goals and how you use your car, then they will get it done right. If you have any concerns give Jay a call and he will work with you.
