The manual mode—engaged via steering-wheel-mounted paddles—is responsive, and the automatic car is easier to launch. GM engineers claim that the automatic transmission makes for quicker quarter-mile runs, but in our testing, the manual was the better sprinter. The difference, however, was miniscule—the auto Camaro passed the quarter-mile in 12.58 seconds, while the manual car did it in 12.57.
Not that it really matters because I think we all will enjoy our cars no matter what transmission they are equipped with but some of our members have been caught up and gloating at the GM statement..

Thanks ZL1NC !!

Their times were kinda slow vs the first four reviews received. They did not say if they used launch control or not. Their times just seem like possibly the driver used was not familiar with the car enough to test it properly. Imagine, a whole HALF second behind the other four tests. At about 116 MPH how many car lengths would that be? 8-12? Sorry, but it just seems like something is askew.

Note this race from another thread. The Dodge is 1/2 second behind the Camaro and is about 20 cars behind. The Camaro turned an 11.9 vs 12.5 for the Dodge. Same Difference as in the best mag tests vs Popular Mechanics http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...0&postcount=83

They're teasing us with that black ZL1 on the lift pic.

I just got done reading the Jalopnik review. It was decent. Just don't read the user comments at the end of the article. Jalopnik seems to be overrun by anti Camaro fanboys who like to hide behind the anonymity of the internet.

Exactly.....

I still don't understand why they didn't shoe the ZL1 with the Michelin PS2's,like the ZR1.

Ah well,it's a simple fix for ~$1800.00

Leaves room for improvement? It would be a fantastic "track package" or something goofy like that....just in case Ford gets too close for comfort.

The tires took a Z06 and made it nearly as fast as a ZR1...imagine what they could do on the Z Camaro.

EDIT: I was thinking Pilot Sport Cups. My mistake.

I'm curious to see what the PS2s do. I'm still left wondering why ZL1 is running good years, while the flagships in GM's fleet are off the floor with PS2... Maybe Michelin didn't want to cut a new tire for another car or something else, but I still have a feeling at least those Sport Cups might make their way onto ZL1. It would be silly not to, IMO. We know they work, so let's get on the ball

I think it is so they have a trick up their sleeve for if / when the GT500 catches up. It would be easy to offer that option for 2013 or beyond and go back to the ring for a better time.
