I knew this would happen. Like I said in a previous post I bought a Mustang GT in 1988 for 14,000 because I could'nt afford 18000 for the IROC. Even in todays market a four thousand dollar diffrence would push alot of people toward the Mustang. I can afford the diffrence NOW but alot of younger buyers are not going to pay more. GM wonders why the Mustang always sells more. Its price people. I could rant on and on about this because it really makes me angry but whats the point. I'm still buyng one.

Yeah I noticed they both quoted the 6.0 for V8 too. I can understand where the "big muscle engine heritage" guys are coming from with seeing a 4 cyl Camaro joining in, it does seem to water down the Jack Daniels a little.

I'm sure this will draw the 16-19 yr olds for graduation gifts or insurance reasons. It doesn't affect me though because the V8 is my target and most everyone else is on the V6 boat. What does grab me is the "premium priced" remark. I know the Camaro will cost more than the mustang on every model type cuz of performance and quality... I'm not stupid or cheap but HOW MUCH more does make a HUGE difference.

I do have faith but man I would hate to see a carpet pulled from under me, it would cause me to fall and break my Rose colored glasses!

I guess the worst thing that would happen is me buying the V6 cuz they had the V8 too highly priced. That would so suck...

Another thing to the I4 nay-sayers:

We should be glad we're even getting the V8 when rumors are Ford will be dropping their Mustang V8's and switching to a twin-turbo V6 setup for their GTs in the coming years.

Frankly if I had a choice between GM offering a range from I4 thru V8 or offering a base V6 and a twin-turbo V6 then I'll happily take the former.

You are exactly right. A local Ford dealer has multiple base v6 2008 Mustangs available at $15,988 (MSRP $19,995). I don't care that it only has 210hp, it will get someone from point A to point B in a sporty ride. Take someone that is cross-shopping an entry point sports car and show them the base Mustang and a base Camaro with the pricing premium on the Camaro (Turbo4 or V6) and take a wild guess which dealer gets the sale. Car sales are no longer about the enthusiast, they are about the average joe buying affordable cars in volume to support the brand/model so the enthusiasts can have what they want. No average joe support and the business model erodes and the model goes away. Simple economics, that's all.

We'll all get the V6 or V8 and we'll have a lot of teenagers and mom's-in-mid-life-crisis driving around in the I4's. If anything we gain new "comrades" and keep these potential "ricers" from purchasing foreign cars.

We get our V8's/V6's, GM gets to sell more cars, foreign automakers lose business.

We win, GM wins, and American automakers all-around win.

exactly what I was thinking, not sure why everyone's getting their little pink panties all in a bunch. If you don't want a 4-banger get a V6/V8, no one's holding a gun to your head saying you HAVE to buy the 4 cylinder!

The pricing comment really worries me. I'm really hoping to get a moderately equipped V8 for under 30k. If not, that may scrap my plans to get this car, barring a major increase in my earning potential :(

I don't have a problem with the 4 cyl, if it brings more buyers. Othewise the 5th gen may not be long for production either. The "premium" price does concern me.

Seriously, the I-4 is a big deal because its here to stay. And that is an insult the the car's heritage. Yeah, they had I-4 engines in the 80's but they were out only for a couple of years.

If GM wants to appeal to the "younger" and "ricer" group, then they should have done a better job w/ marketing the Cobalt. Seriously.

And how much more does "premium" mean? At first they were saying that the Camaro's prices will compete w/ the Mustang, knowing that it will cost "a bit" more being the better quality but NOW they're screaming that the Camaro will sold as a "Premium" car??!

I don't like how the future is looking. The good thing though is that the V-8 will be more exclusive but that means WAY more money to pay! The way things look, I won't be able to afford the legendary V-8.

Overlap it is helpful in the selling of cars...example if the high end Cobalt has the same engine as the low end Camaro then the progression from one Model to the next is fully covered without really hurting either.

I would caution everyone here to be patient, pricing, options and features are not set, therefore to become upset over the possibilities is lunacy.

Do you think Ford heard what Lutz said and is scrambling to come up with a suitable 4 Cylinder for the Mustang...not likely since they still don't have an answer to the Ecotec Series Engines. Besides this is all just lip service, it really means nothing.

The car must be a success and if that requires one of the engines to a 4 cylinder then so be it. Don't be surprised if some day you'll be able to get a Camaro Hybrid. Trust me regardless of the engine choices available you will not be disappointed.

That's what really bothers me as well. I don't care how I get the power, just as long as I get the power. I was expecting that the prices would be similar to the Mustang, but if they're expecting to jack them up quite a bit higher than the Stang, that's going to present a serious problem.
