Putting a 2012 LFX into my '79 Z28. Yes, you read right and, no, I could care less if you feel its sacrilege

Since it is the LFX, it seems more difficult to find aftermarket parts. I'm currently hung up on finding an external fuel pump. The dealer here won't offer any info on what is stock (I'm guessing stock is internal) or any other details. I'm finding nothing on a google search and local performance houses don't seem to have much info either.

I have the stock fuel pump ecm. From what I understand, I will be running just a single fuel rail.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well.....how are you going to deal with over 2000 PSI? You will have to convert to direct injection, have ultra high pressure stainless fuel rails fabbed, 2000-3000PSI DI injectors, and how are you going to run the pump? It runs off of one of the cam lobes on the drivers side cylinder head of the LFX and is a plunger actuated.

Curious on what your trying to accomplish and how your going to.

The 79 Z28 is a low pressure TB injection engine.....

I think he is swapping the engine....not just looking to use an LFX pump.

He just needs info on an external pump, but I would think that should be easy to find considering there is the tank pump, and then the DI pump which is attached to the engine itself.

That is a very strange conversion, but not saying I don't hate it. I'm very curious to see what you end up doing.

Get ahold of the repair manual for the LSX, and see what the pump pressure and flow rate to the high pressure pump are. Then go to your local speed shop and order your pump. The engine is too new to use an online system like MOTOR DIY, so you will have to get the info from the GM repair manuals.

Never thought of that.....if doing a complete engine drivetrain swap then yes, this would be a neat project. We just guided a marine/boat performance shop through a LFX swap into a light speed boat....they wanted it for the power to weight ratio.
