Broken Axle

My drivers side broke on my 1LE with less then 500 miles on the odo. It was a little cooler out here temperature wise so my tires had little heat in them. In second gear i started to lay into it and got more excessive wheel hop then usual, And before I could get out of it BOOM!! It spent Christmas in the service dept.

Wheel hop is certainly the culprit of most broken axles. I wish GM would just put better rear trailing arms in these cars... anything to stop all the wheel hop. I'm sure it will never be resolved but it would certainly reduce the amount of warranty claims.

If you can buy a set of pfadt, bmr etc arms that stop or greatly reduce wheel hop then GM can do it for alot less than replacing broken shafts I would think.

And you also want to tighten up those bushings. I understand 1LEs, just like the SS, needs firmer bushings. I have solids, but unless you are serious about tracking, go with inserts. I wish I did. But I do not miss rear step out. I noticed that on the drive home from the dealer. That I have cured.

And I also have been advised a non-stock wheel alignment can help. I have the bushings and Trailing Arms, but on occasion I still get wheel hop.
