Do you save your stock parts or get rid of them after you mod?

I've been seening some post requests of people and parts designers asking for stock parts lately.
I've also seen that a lot of people either toss their stock part out, sell them or give it away.

Ever since my quad racing days I have kept all my stock parts so I could put them back on in the future if I sold my quad, and then sell off the mods seperate. I know it seems like a lot of work, but it did help fund the next build I would work on.

I'll be keeping my Camaro for a long time and if I do sell, wouldn't it be kind of cool to be able to provide the stock parts to the new owner if they themselves want to go back to the original state of the car? Or am I just turning into a parts packrat?

I'm the same way! Factory intake is in the Cold Air Inductions box so if I need it, I know exactly where it is.

I kept my stock manifolds. Didn't care for any of the other parts of the exhaust system. I am thinkin of selling them, not sure if people would be interested in stock parts.

I am going to swap out the intake soon, so I will definitely keep the stock box.

I keep most of my parts too. If the day comes that I decide to sell the car I have the option to return it to stock or make it more appealing to the buyer with the original parts.
I just sold a 99 SS and the buyer was happy to get some of the original parts. The parts he didn't want, I sold on eBay and made few bucks.

I'm just a private citizen, but so far I've catalogued over 3,300 brand new GM parts in my personal parts stash for restoring some of my cars. I bought stuff for my 2002 Camaro SS as well. Not because I needed it then, but eventually I might when the General stopped stocking them. For example, I have a couple sets of new sun visors for the 4th gen. These things are in HIGH demand I found out. But I don't have to go scrounging like others do.

I keep most stock parts as applicable. Like Cam 427 says, if I sell the car, I replace stuff back to stock BEFORE I sell it, and if I don't need the upgraded parts, sell those and make a few extra bucks. More $$ than by selling the stock stuff this soon anyway. (But if you keep the stock parts LONG enough, you can charge what you want when the "restorers" are looking for stock replacement stuff 10-15 years from now).

You get more people interested in your car when you sell it if it's bone stock. This I have found. Every mod takes out more people out of your potential customer base the further you go with it.

I save them in a growing box of OE parts - better to retain them if you have the space (I didn't keep the stock exhaust - too damn big & long).

Need LS3, M6 Stock Exhaust

I'll take an LS3, M6 stock cat-back of somebody's hands if anyone in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas is willing to sell.

This is pretty true considering what you install in your vehicle may not be what another customer wants to have in theirs. So give them the option to replace the OEM parts at their own cost and at least get your car sold.

I will prolly end up storing my stock parts once I start replacing them just for SMOG checks in Cali and what not so I dont get screwed over trying to mod my car and find out half of it ends up being illegal in 5 years..

All my stock parts are wrapped up and stored in the garage attic. If I ever get in an accident I got spare parts. A car is worth more if it has all the original parts for resale, especially in 20 years.
