False Indication Of Low Tire

Last week received master caution light with indicator revealing right rear tire approximately 23 to 27 psi. It fluctuated. Took vehicle to Chevrolet garage. Worked ok until today. Same indication.

Had nitrogen serviced several months ago.

Did you check the pressure with a gauge?

just curious but are the tpms sensors calibrated for nitrogen? That is to say what effect will the gas have on the internal parts of the sensor?

False Indication Of Low Tire

Did not check pressure with gauge. Seems I should have. After indicator showed pressure increasing, and decreasing I believed it was not low.

Second visit to dealer revealed "a screw in tire."

No idea what caused increase in psi indication.

>at is to say what effect will the gas have on the internal parts of the sensor?

Good question.

The gas will have no effect on the sensor. Regular air is already ~78% nitrogen.

If the increase pressure due to temperature rise of the tire as you drive it exceeded the small amount of air leaking due to the screw, you could see a temporary increase in pressure. When the tires get to operating temperature, then the leak would cause the pressure to drop again.

Always check your tires with a pressure gage. TPS are not a substitute for a gage to keep the correct tire pressures.

So my Cammy came with green-tipped tire caps. Does this mean that I have nitrogen in these tires? (I pre-ordered my Cammy...never mentioned to anyone that I wanted nitrogen, but then again, I never told anyone that I didn't want it either).
Second Question: Did yours come with green-tipped tire caps too from the factory?
