2011 Camaro SS Manual Transmission Clutch Noise

Greetings. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue with the manual transmission. When disengaging the clutch in 1st or reverse gear, the transmission makes a very loud chatter very similar to the sound resulting from someone jumping off a diving board. Initially, I didn't hear it but it has become increasingly louder over time (I have 8500 miles on my car). The dealer and GM say this sound is normal (after spending a total of 19 days in the shop) but I find that hard to believe and would not have bought the car had I known that this obnoxious sound would develop. Its loud and embarrassing and a sound that a 40k car should NOT make. Anyone else experiencing this and, if so, just a little bit angry to say the least? I'm concerned this will affect the resale value of my vehicle as I would NOT buy this car after hearing this sound. Thanks for your input.

This bothered me a lot at first and I've noticed this sound both on my old 2010 and new 2011 SSs, it seems that maybe all the SS MTs do it?... But even my 2005 G35 had the same sound, and I've seen similar complaints on the 6MT forum, so maybe it is something that higher powered manual transmission vehicles do..

Anyway, I've found to keep the sound from happening-> If you maintain a slight bit of throttle (not enough to rev it up, just enough to rev match for a second) just as you disengage then it doesn't make the noise anymore. I've been using this practice for so long I hardly ever get the noise now. Hope this helps.. if anyone knows what is actually causing the noise in the first place I sure wouldn't mind knowing either.

Normal but still a little too loud for our cars with such low mileage, clutch chatter usually means the clutch is getting old i guess. Many of our issues can be remedied with a clutch upgrade.

many people have this issue and I know my dealer won't do anything about it so I will have to live with it. but can this affect anything in the long run? wear anything out in the drivetrain prematurely?

I think all M6 V8s suffer from this torquing of the driveline at low RPM when pushing the clutch in quickly. It freaked me out at first but after 50,000 miles on my 2011 the clutch is performing well. I can even avoid the high RPM 1-2 grind most of the time, lol.

I posted this in another thread with the same subject matter
