Side note. It looks like the spark plug breaking was a blessing in disguise. When I drained the oil the first 2 QUARTS or so was pure water.

Had blown the head gasket in that cylinder. Which is probably why the spark plug got corroded the way it did.

Chains jumped time when I released the tensioner because the valves were pushing up on the cam making it super resistant in one direction so I had to redo all of the timing but was no big deal. Runs like a top.

Now I'm not good at remembering stuff so I bagged and tagged all of the bolts as they came off. Went back together down to every bolt.

I had to put a big sign on the engine last night because AFTER I put the manifold, fuel rails and valve cover on waiting the timing cover gasket and the radiator to be available for pick up today I went back over it all in my mind and after the timing gears, chain guides, chain tensioners and all I forgot to torque the cam bolt.

So I did that this morning and then put it all back together.

But it's finally done and so I can install my noweeds now.

Here are some pics of my cheating. LOL

While I hate the engine design, I was actually pretty happy with how the inside looked for having such miles over ten years. We've taken pretty good care of the inside.

I could use some engine bay cleanliness lessons though.

I suck at that.

BTW, overhead cams suck.

Just sayin'.

Randy- Newer Mustangs are famous for breaking off plugs in the head.....There is a tool that is made specifically for getting plugs out of aluminum heads.

The reason I know is my mechanic friend Matt had a guy bring his Mustang by just to get the plug out. They didn't put anti-seize on their plugs and 5 broke while he was changing all of them. I'll see if I can find out what the tool is called.

I've seen that on YouTube. But I think they are a different type of plug. The guy that took the broken threads out of mine said there is no way these were coming out without cutting them out. And the corrosion was bad enough to ruin the threads on the head.

He's not a mechanic but seemed pretty smart.

Jeep should have kept the inline 6 4.0 liter. That was a kick ass engine and easy to work on. One head, one exhaust manifold and plenty of room to work around. Glad you got it fixed!

I had a wrangler with the 4.2 (carb, but same engine), then a Cherokee and Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 (which survived the Alaskan/Canadian Highway) and another wrangler with the 4.0. Crazy, huh?

Wrangler #1 kinda died a slow death in Alaska. Never saw much pavement and many a creek crossing. When I got it back to Kansas in '96 it sort of let go on me. Wrangler #2 pulled may boats and went on many hunting trips. That was my last Jeep. :( Wranglers and CJs were easy to get before, but they are priced crazy nowadays.
