Rattle @ ~2500 RPM

I picked up my car last Wednesday (4/13), and I've been loving it since I drove off the lot.

However, over the weekend I started hearing a rattling noise at freeway speeds with the engine speed around 2500 RPM. If I drop below that point the rattle goes away. Also, if I push the clutch in, the rattle goes away.

I've checked everywhere in the cabin that I can think of for loose/rattling parts, but haven't found much. I had a USB Flash Drive plugged in that rattles when shaken, which I removed last night thinking that it would resolve the problem - no such luck.

I'm planning on taking the sales guy for a ride this afternoon on my lunch to see if he can help me locate the rattle, but I thought I'd ask if any of you have some suggestions on places to look before I hand my baby over to the dealership (somewhat scared face).

I'm aware of the TSB on the speaker rattle, but I figured that was just for rattling while the speaker was in use.

Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks!

So, I took the stuff out of my glove box before heading to the dealership to see if the rattling sound was coming from the glove box. The drive to the dealership on the freeway was quiet - no rattling sound at all, so I decided not to mention it during my brief visit.

However, I got back in the car and started driving, and it started happening again once I pulled onto the freeway!

I'm determined to verify it's not something obvious inside the cabin before I make another trip to the dealership. Anyone have any insight as to where the best places are to look for rattles in the cabin? Let me know!

Put the car up on ramps last night to install a Skip Shift Eliminator. Took it out for a test drive afterward and couldn't reproduce the rattle. I also didn't hear it on my way to work this morning.

I'm stumped, and will just wait to see if it becomes consistent as I'm not about to make several trips to the dealer only to be told they can't make it happen.

You shouldn't have intalled that skip-shoft gizmo until AFTER this existing rattle issue has been resolved. You never ever wanna give a dealer an excuse to point the problem to something you did to the car, NEVER!

I thought of that after the fact, but a lot of the guys that service these cars with the recommended TSBs have never even been inside one of these cars (scary, I know).

Regardless, the rattle was there before the introduction of this part, and it can easily be unplugged at their request. All it does is prevent the computer from locking out 2nd gear under light acceleration in 1st gear, which GM only uses to avoid the gas guzzler tax on the LS3.

Anyhow, I went in to the dealership today to talk to the service department about a paint related issue, and mentioned the rattling. I explained where it seemed to be coming from, and the conditions in which the rattling occurred. He seemed to remember the service department replacing some of the shifter components to resolve a rattle similar to what I described on a Camaro about 8 months ago.

I'll have them test it out as they'll have my car for a couple days for the paint problem, so I'll post an update after they reveal their findings.

Good to hear your vehicle is getting serviced. Hopefully they are able to take care of your paint and rattle issues. I will be waiting for your update to see if you need any assistance on my end. I hope everything goes well for you!

I took the Service Manager @ the dealership out for a ride on Friday. Unfortunately, the sound didn't emerge as loud as I would have hoped during our drive on the 35 MPH roads around the dealership or during the short jaunt down I-5 going 60-70 MPH.

The sound did come back ever so slightly, but not as loud and obnoxious as it usually does. He said he would throw it up on a lift and take a look at it when I drop it off on Monday for a paint issue.

Crossing my fingers that they can replicate and pinpoint the noise as rattles/vibration aren't something I can handle in any new car, let alone my precious Camaro!

More updates to come this week!

Dealership couldn't reproduce the noise, and it didn't resurface on my drive home yesterday or my drive into work today. Best I can do is wait for it to be consistent, or locate it myself.
