Painting a carbon fiber hood
Im am thinking about ordering the terminator carbon fiber hood but wanted to have it painted black to match the color of my car, actually just the sides and leave the scoop part carbon fiber. Has anyone painted a carbon fiber hood? Is it the same process as painting a fiberglass hood? Will I have any issues after I paint it?
Im new to this forum and this is my first (most likely of many) posts - any feedback would be appreciated, thanks! |

Hey Joey and welcome to the forums.
The terminator is a pretty popular hood, so you should get a number of replies. I myself have a painted cf hood and I wasn't told that the shop had to do anything special to paint it vs. painting fiberglass. I have had 0 issues with my hood since installing it back in February of 2010. Just make sure you check for a UV gelcoat on it. If there is no UV gelcoat, the carbon fiber will turn yellow after a while of sunbleaching. Make sure you post pics when it's finished and installed. =) |

Nope...scuff, prep, and paint. Same as any other surface.
The trick is that when you "scuff" you literally scuff it and don't sand through the sealed surface. That can lead to problems. Good luck! Ivna @ Southwest Speed |
