allright I was a fourth gen lover and still am. I recently sold my 2000 stock ss and got into a 2010 2ss rs ,

I have not yet been to the track BUT I can say that the f5 is faster than the f4,nothing to wet my pants about but i would say 2-3-4 tenths but where it beats the f4 and why I moved into is for the whole package.

F5 wins on quality,Comfort, ride, and importantly for me now SAFETY. No way I was putting my kiddies into the f4, despite the ttops, if you sit in the rear your head is right under the hatchback, no good. Some people complain about the weight of the f5 but I like it, heavy = tough and protection. Personally I would trade a tenth or two or threee for a bit more protection that if I do get bumped I will be better off that a f4, or seriously better than the mustang 2011, the sn197 or whatever is tiny no bueno for me.

the 98-02 ls1 fcars are wonderful and loved them , I needed a new daily driver and there was no other option. Maintaining a 11 year old daily driver is harder than you think.

2010 luver now.

I accept with information:
if its a v6 4th gen you will smoke them
but if its a ss or z28 they will eat you alive
the ss will literally be door to door with the new ss
the z28 not so sure but the z28 will out run the v6

It's funny reading this thread now, many months after it started because ALMOST every single member in here that was mildly bashing the 5th gens and proudly defending their 4th gens now have 5th gen SS cars in their signatures and avatars. Lol!

for 4th gens. ss=z28=ws6=trans am i wish people would get it right. and ALL of them were underrated as far as advertised power. i do believe and dont quote me on this but the fastest stock LS1 fbody was a z28... i think...

I don't race mine, but I sure do like all that torque at LOW rpm's in the LT1.

No doubt the L99 is slower then the ls3 but they are not the dogs everyone says. I think they ave hit 12.8. I think the gas and ignition timing gave them a bad rap from the start.

Go to you tube and type in L99 vs Ls3. It shows a full exhaust, CAI and underdrive pulley L99 getting walked from a highway roll against a stock Ls3...I thought this was very disappointing myself. I think the car eventually comes back to about even. But still...that is just crazy.

not that this video is concrete proof of anything...but I thought it was something to consider.

Also...thanks for the intelligent responses...its nice not to have to argue with everyone and just have a discussion.
The guy with the M6 was burning up his clutch and not lifting to shift. That's the only reason why it resulted like that. And he was in the wrong gear like someone said. Plus, I don't think his tranny was tuned. Hey, if you feel like destroying your tranny/clutch for one race like the M6er than go for it. lol

When the LS1 F-cars came out there seemed to be more people willing to do crazy things to get the 1/4mi times. In 1998/99 a furious debate over whether the LS1 surpassed 70s musclecars began to rage in the forums. The then new 4th gen was posting such unbelievable times by late 1999 that people just didn't want to believe it. Each argument that tried to discredit the LS1 was a challenge to their owners, who quickly posted more spectacular free mod, bolt-on, and cam only times. There was a lot more competition back then to post faster times. Not since the Hemi had we seen a musclecar do what the 4th gens were doing.

Today the competition isn't as fierce. The big guy on the block is the GT500. Nothing compares to it, but it's price makes it too exclusive. A heavy Camaro that only posts 1998 numbers isn't going to motivate people to do mods the way the LS1 did. The 5th gen just can't break new ground. By todays standards it is average at best.

the 2010 is faster than the LS1 cars. The weight really hurts the 2010's ET but its trap speeds suggests it really runs noticeably faster than the F-Body once it gets going (109mph vs 106mph avg.). EVen with the weight disadvantage hurting the ET's the 2010 is still a couple tenths quicker on average.
I remember it being a huge deal when Evan Smith ran 12.9's in the LS1 but now everybody claims to run 12's in their stock LS1 which is hardly the case when you go to the track (more like mid 13's). Also those old f-bodies are rattle traps so people are more inclined to do weight reduction mods on them since they wont be losing out on much ammenities anyways. People always seem to conveniently leave out how much weight reduction theyve done and then claim how great they ran with minimal mods listed.
