Question P Zero and Winter Weather

I am new to this site, and have just ordered a Silver 2LT/RS. This will be a dialy driver car. I am curious as to anyone's experinece these past couple of months with the Pirelli P Zero tire performance in less than ideal weather conditions (read, light snow). Should I consider "snow tires?" I cannot imagine that tires that are useless/unsafe in bad weather would be option/standard on RS/SS. My wife will freak if I have to buy two more wheels and snow tires...

Needless to say, I cannot wait until I get my new baby! The dealer said late Feb - early Mar.

they are summer only tires. it is suggested that you don't use them when it's lower than 40 degrees.

I would not say that, but you do need to be a more careful. If you can drive in the rain (wet roads) without crashing you can certainly drive a Camaro in sub 40 degree weather.

I live in Florida but we've had some real cold (for us) weather lately. It was in the upper 20s for several morning and I drove all over the place with no issues what so ever. The tires worked a lot better than everyone described (and my car is modded and tuned with very little Torque management).

Now, you DO NOT want to drive in ice or snow. But the tires work perfectly fine (as long as you use common sense) in colder weather.

Didn't say that you couldn't, just suggested. I would probably get snows if you guys get a lot of winter weather.

Not 2 new wheels and tires, 4 .

OP is in Maryland? You just have to assume you'll get snow. The RS is an upgrade option that moves you from all season to summer only on the 2LT I believe- so it's not standard, you upgraded for them.

Summer tires are really only meant for one thing: summer. That includes all types of weather conditions you'd expect...in summer. The problem is that once the rubber reaches its glass transition temperature (which for summer tires is warmer than winter/all-season tires), its ability to grip the road diminishes fairly noticeable. I have the all season PZero tires on my Prelude (PZero Nero M+S), and they're fantastic in just about anything. But since you already have a set of summer tires, I would recommend you invest in a snow set (all 4 tires). You'll really only use them ~4 months out of the year maximum. Considering we just got 2 feet of snow a month ago, do you really want to chance it with the summer tires?

those things are not safe at all in colder temps... i noticed it when driving in +3 celcius, one of the guys on the canadian site, his car driving on the p-zeros fish-tailed into a tree and got written off... so i would say... although there might be no snow etc on the road... they not not rated to run in the really cold temps...

no matter what all these vag's say you can drive your p-zeros in the cold. just drive it like its a down poor of rain.. dont get on it hard and dont slam the brakes on.. now the snow on the other hand 1" or even less my car sucks.. my parking lot is gravel and we plow it down to gravel and i still got stuck in the parking lot about a 1* incline so it basically is flat. i drive my truck now just because of my parking lot if it wsant for my shitty parking lot i would drive my car year round unless its snowing.. and im in pittsburgh.. about 8 days of snow so far this year.

Summer tires ARE STANDARD on ALL V8 Camaros......Even without the RS pkg.
Also comes with the 1LTRS & 2LTRS.

Here's... OP's QUOTE " Should I consider "snow tires?" I cannot imagine that tires that are useless/unsafe in bad weather would be option/standard on RS/SS."

I've said it before: in the long run, buying a good set of snow tires will SAVE YOU MONEY in the long run. The PZeros are expensive! If you are planning on DDing it all winter, get snow tires.

I realize that's cold for you, but there is a big difference between upper 20s for several mornings and real winter weather. Try NEGATIVE upper 20s for several mornings. We just finished a stretch a couple weeks long of never getting above zero. Besides, it's the road temp that really matters; that may not have been much below 40 if the sun was out.
