Wow, that service department sounds like it sux. I Plugged up my iPhone and let them see what was happening. they spent about an hour with the car and brought it back telling me the part would be in in 3 days. Set up an appointment, brought it back, and was on the road in 30 minutes. The service tech who did the work also told me he had seen this before. Maybe your dealer had not. I hate to suggest changing service departments cause it sounds like you spent enough time waiting on yahoos to do nothing for you, maybe just call another one and see if they have heard of this issue. A person would think that with all of us who are, and were, having this problem GM would have posted some info for all service departments to know what to do.
