Fog lights

I have a 2SS RS and have a question about the fog lights. I understand when you get the HID headlights they are supposed to act as your daytime running lamps. Otherwise the foglamps are supposed to be the DRL's.

I do have fog lights, but I am unable to get them to turn on under any circumstance. There is no on/off switch/button in the car to do that. If you don't have HID's the main exterior light knob which rotates to activate the lights is also supposed to have a fog light switch/button in the center of that ring which you push to activate the fog lights.

The RS package apparantly removes that button for the fog light and inserted in its place is a blank, that does not move at all.

My question is, why would the car have fog lights (which mine clearly does) with either (1) no way to activate them or (2) no switch. In other words, why would you even get the fog lens and light unit if they never come on?

Am I missing something?:(

welcome to the site and congrats on your camaro purchase!

you have the RS package, therefore the 'fog lights' ain't fog lights at all... they're the DRLs. they come on when the headlights are off & the car is in gear.

to actually get fog lights, you have to not get the RS option.

this has been discussed fifty-bajillion times. just type fog lights into the & find anything you want to know about how the different systems work

Yes but they never turn on. The HID's act as the DRL's. The owner's manual even says that, but is silent about the fogs when the HID's act as the DRL's.

Thanks Zebra. So are these lights just for show and they never turn on when you have the RS package?

No, they turn on during the day as daytime running lamps... if your HID's are turning on during the day out in the sun(with the switch set to auto), you may want to get your car check out as that is not supposed to happen. I just turn on my halo's anyway, so I never use the fogs/DRLs

here's the break-down

RS cars
HID headlights are low and high beams - activated by the switch or the light sensor when it gets dark
halos are the front parking lamps - activated by the switch set to the 'parking light' position
bumper lights are DRLs - activated by putting the car in gear with the other lights off

non-RS cars
halogen headlights are low and high beams as well as DRLs - headlights are activated by the switch or the light sensor when it gets dark, DRLs are lower voltage and are activated by putting the car in gear with the other lights off
turn signals are the front parking lamps - activated by the switch set to the 'parking light' position
bumper lights are fog lights - activated by pressing the 'fog light' button on the switch

Only on Canadian cars are the HIDs the DRLs. On the American cars its the fogs (RS ONLY). If you have the lights completely off, the fogs will come on during the day as DRLs. If you leave your lights on all the time, the will overide the DRLs and every time you start your car your HIDs will come on and you will never have the fogs (DRLs) on.

Exclamation

This may Help:
The DRL\fog lights as many call them will come on if -u- have the light control switch in the AUTO mode.
mine do it automatically when I back out of my garage(in the AUTO mode)

The Halo's are your parking type lights (in the manual mode)
they also come on when you enguage the HID's

Rember you have two light modes Play around with it and the car will tell you in the info screen what mode your in.

hope this helps

it defaults to 'auto' with every ignition cycle. that's why the switch is spring-loaded. to turn them completely off, you have to kick the switch to the 'off' position every time you start the car

Thanks for the input all. I am going to turn the lights off manually with the next start of the car. Then I will engage first gear and see if the fog/bumper lights come on. I will let you guys know what I find out.

if you manually turn them off... they'll be off
start the car, leave the switch on 'auto', put it in gear & have someone else look while you remain in the driver's seat to keep the car from moving

Ok, final post, I think. I started the car (outside) and put the manual shift in neutral and the bumper/fogs came on without putting the car in gear. (I did have someone helping). And the halos stayed off. So I think everything is as it ought to be functioning. Thanks again.
