Back pressure is needed for 4 cylinders and or with turbo applications. The big ol mufflers where added by GM so everyone even picky people that dont like it loud would buy it. GM offers an upgraded cat back muffler exhaust, which is straight thru itself. I wouldn't see these cars needing back pressure, unless you did turbo them.

I agree, who buys a camaro SS for the gas mileage
I did the muffler delete and did not notice a difference at all. Even if there was, I would imagine you would maybe lose $2/ fill up. However, I did notice my gas mileage go up once I got the CAI. I think the mods balanced each other out

yes its a very small loss, but i agree i didn't buy the camaro for MPG.. any one who buys a 6.2L v8 engine should not be complaining about MPG lol

lol gas mileage and camaro SS in the same sentence is funny. After my muffler delete I know I lost mpg cause I like revving it now.

I chose a new SS 'cause its fast (yeah I know!), No kissing a window when suddenly turning (referring to trucks), and simply because.. its an everyday joy to drive. EVERYDAY! A big nasty 6.2L! "Oh yeah!" thats Kool-aid style. I knew the gas mileage was going to be better highway-wise compared to my 1991 5.3l z71. Good gasemileage should never be considered in city-driving. I haven't noticed any losses in mpg up to about 70mph. Then I can only hit 23.1 or .4 I believe.

I deleted my mufflers 1 week ago, and I think I lost (maybe) 1-3 MPG. 3 days later, I added a K&N panel filter and it seems to have gone back up to where it was originally, if not a little bit higher (when I baby it).

The problem is (like everyone else) I get on it alot now to hear the awesomeness coming out of the exhaust!

The K&N panel filter made a huge difference to the overall throttle response of the engine IMO.

I have the muffler delete and didn't notice any difference. I don't baby it either. She averaged 16.7 mpg in the city when I parked her for the winter.

A little off topic, but does anyone know how accurate the MPG reader is? I can remember one time when I reset it before I left for the day, and when I parked at school I was getting 16.8. Then when I got back to my car a few hours later and started it up, it read 15.0...
