For me this will be the 1st new car i have ever owned. I have waited several years and worked my ass off to get out of debt and save money for a new Camaro. Last year i sold my 01 SS to help fund the new ride. The ZL1 happend to come out at the right time for me (planets aligned). Im one for modding a car it keeps me busy and usually out of trouble. To have a car of this caliber be affordable and a warranty...Im sold right there. If i went out and bought a new SS i would put it out of warranty within a year from mods.
Price, Power, Warranty and Prestige.... I dont think ill regret getting this car |

You're comparing a used SS to a brand new ZL1? :s
When u walk into a bar, do u look for the older gals that have been around the block or do u look for the younger better looking gals? The ZL1 is a hot model, fresh out of college looking for a good time... You tell me u aren't gonna buy her a few drinks?

For me it's worth it my 2SS/RS is paid off, along with trade in and cash I'll be putting down 33k-36k, so my loan will be for about 20-23k at 2.25% APR. So for me it's a very wise decision.

Correct....It's been debated on internet sites since at least when the 2001 Z06 was produced. People with standard coupes said they could make up the HP difference with a few mods. Then the same with the standard C6 when the C6 Z06 was introduced. Then the ZR1...and on it goes. |

Can you mod your current LS3 to get to the same power levels as a ZL1 for less money than just buying a ZL1? Certainly.
But one more aspect of this issue is future trade-in value. A true ZL1 will have alot more trade-in value if/when you trade it in at the dealer for 'The Next Big Thing' than a modded SS. People will be much more apt to buy a used ZL1 than they would a modded SS. |

If you have to ask, it isn't worth it to you. If you buy it with this question in mind, you will always look for justification and keep asking yourself why you spent $30k more than a used 2SS/RS. You are better suited for the SS.

The question as it is written is similar to those asking if we are worried about fuel economy.
It doesn't make sense. Fuel could be 15 dollars a gallon, I'd still fill it up and go enjoy it. The pupose of the car is for recreation, not transportation. Its like buying a Camry and then complaining you got beat by a Corvette in the twisty's. The value is there for what you get in the ZL1, The question is only if you can justify the expense in your personal financial situation. That is it.
