Going fast on fresh tires :)
So I recently switched from the F1's to R-s3. Tires had all of 10 miles on them prior to making my first run of the day. During those 10 miles I messed around a little bit and they felt good so I went out a little harder than I should. Long story short, don't go out hard on fresh tires.
The R-s3s have a soft sidewall compared to the F1's so turn in is a little delayed but once it sticks it sticks like glue. In the first run I was not expecting to fall behind in the first slalom so quick so my steering inputs were more along the line of "oh shit" im late rather than smooth. Later on the tires were just smoked so the rest of the run was crap. However when I finally scrubbed them in the car felt amazing. Rear end grip is stellar...too stellar for my liking as I like a looser car. Over all the Hankook R-s3 are an A+ in my book. Video imo is funny and I felt like a total newbie after the first run. http://youtu.be/DcM34WAg9JY

Awesome. I just ordered some r-s3's as well. Are you in NNJR SCCA and going 8/2?
if so, it's gonna be old school 1LE versus new school 1LE! I haven't AX'ed in years so hope you don't mind if i ask for advice Last edited by 2MCHPWR; 07-15-2014 at 09:51 AM. |

I will be there Come up and say hi. I'm not sure I can give you the best advice but our region is swamped with talented nationally ranked drivers.

Stock size 285/35/20. The rs-3 do not like to be pinched due to the soft sidewalls. Rear end traction is stellar, I actually want to dial out some rear toe and maybe add a stiffer rear bar.
I am currently running .08 total toe in at the rear and want to dial some out because these tires made the rear end stick like glue. I am constantly playing with angles and this is one of my favorite as well.

Tire rack offers a heat cycling service for this type of thing. It's supposed to restructure the rubber compound. Afterwards the tires wear better and last longer. The same thing can be accomplished on the track to some degree.

I would advise many to break in their Hankook RS3s before going all out. Hankook RS3s need heat to work. They also get greasy with too much tire pressure. Mine are set as low as 30psi but no more than 36 PSI or greasy slippery slidy and away I go. Watch your tire pressure on very hot days. And yes I too hate the soft sidewalls but love the stiff solid centers which is great for breaking. My 305 30 19s love camber 2 degrees up front.

I thought about those after I wear out my Vredstiens. But think I will stick with going with Pilot Super Sports.

If you cruise around with occasional autox or track days than get the super sports. If you want maximum grip I would go with rivals or the hankooks or ZII's depending on what diameter wheel you run.
