Need a shortblock - Motor Decided to Quit Life
Hey guys,
Unfortunately, I dropped a lifter a couple weeks back while cruising to work. Don't know the extent of the damage (pushrod isn't even touching the rocker), but it looks like I am in the market for a shortblock. It was quite a loud screeching noise (I assume the roller locking up) and when the noise stopped (subsequent lifter disintegration) it dropped a cylinder . I'll take my time rebuilding the motor that's currently in it and have it for a backup/drop-in for a rolling chassis car I'll get down the line. Current Combo: Whipple 2.9 - 4.0 pulley (10lbs) dual pass exchanger ID850's JRE Rough idle cam and package (probably needs to be replaced) LS3 heads 2" TSP headers zl1 pump (I know, I know, I need to upgrade) JDM FPCM Anyway, what I am looking for: ~415 - dish pistons with reliefs good for 15lbs boost - probably going to drop a ~23X/24X - 24X/25X cam in it >.650 lift (don't care about idle quality (its now going to be the weekend car) and it has too much torque for the tires as it is. -may run meth Feedback time: I may not run 15lbs (meth and/or E85 which obviously needs the fuel system and injector upgrades) and may stick to 10-12 for awhile. I want to know if the ID850's will be adequate (or if those with experience have seen that the duty cycle will be too high for that boost/cubes/meth etc) Also if some of the vendors could PM me to discuss some packages, that would be great

A couple things I'd like to add:
If you are going E85 I would still run 10:1 - 10.5:1 compression. You won't have enough injector or pump for E85 if you are going to turn it up at all. You don't have enough pump to run that setup on E85 N/A I don't think... A cam with that much lift is going to be rough on Valve Springs; I would run something a little smaller and let the boost do the work. Just my 2 cents. |

Depends on your budget. Can do a forged 376 with a BTR stage 3 cam. A 376 is easier on the piston skirts compare to a 416 with a PD blower setup. But the 416 is usually easier to get.

Learning experience.
What went wrong? (valve train) What caused that? (too aggressive a cam and springs) Are you going to duplicate that or fix it? What issues were you having before (too much instant tq) and how do you make those better and how not to make those worse. (strokers make even more instant torque to blow the tires off even easier) Lots of years of experience is what we built turbo cars with smaller cams and less valve spring. Logic tree. |

Ugh sorry, meant less than .650 lift. Thanks for the input guys.
What about staying on 91 octane and using meth versus E85? I get get meth much more easily than finding E85 stations.

I'm running straight 93 octane on 9.5:1 compression ratio

In CA I would drop compression at not bother with E85.
Meth is up to you but strips the finish off the rotors and that increases the clearances inside the blower that cause super heating to begin with. So it helps a lot but at a price. |
