It's literally a 1 off, it's a unique version for the Gathering of Eagles

The Boss was offered as a whole different sub model where the 1LE is just an option package, but the two fill roughly the same role.

Both cars have had special editions so I didn't count them. So in the end the Mustang has a whopping 1 more separate model. Frankly it comes off as nitpicking to bring that up as a mark against Ford.[/

O forgot a couple GT/CS Cali special and Bullit up to 3 for now . My point is Mustang does have a lot of special editions and types of mustangs out there. Camaro doesn't have near as many. Just saw one on motor trend that they are going auction off an Apollo Edition. Seems like they have special edition all the time. Not trying to start anything just stating what I have seen
Wasnt there a hot wheels camaro, a transformers camaro and others?

And all of those could be ordered and bought at a dealership. The California and Boss were good examples too for Ford. Unlike these one off cars Ford has been doing a lot of, Apollo, F35, etc...

Well to be fair the Boss was a full on Mustang model, the California Special is just an appearance package

The next gt500 will do the same to the next zl1 that happened last time. Except this time the road course might be a little different. With IRS and the possibility of mag ride along with a stupid amount of power it should out do anything the zl1 can throw at it. The weight is gonna be to close and the power gap to large.

Yeah we can pretty much guarantee the next GT500 will have more power than the next ZL1. I don't see the next ZL1 having more than 670 or so. I'm thinking back when the LSA in the CTS-V had 556 hp if I recall correctly and the LSA in the ZL1 went to 580, a slight increase. Will the next ZL1 follow this trend? Remains to be seen. The handling of the two I think will be pretty close.

This isn't the first time Ford has done this. They have raised alot of money by doing aviation themed Mustangs. But as others said they are one off cars for charity...

2008 – Mustang AV8R, with cues from F-22 Raptor, which helped introduce the glass-roof canopy and delivered an auction contribution of $500,000

2009 – AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll” Mustang, crafted in honor of the World War II aircraft 2010 – Two automotive icons – the late Carroll Shelby, former U.S. Air Force flight instructor, and Jack Roush, longtime P-51 pilot – collaborated for the first time to create the SR-71 Blackbird Mustang inspired by legendary reconnaissance jet 2011 – Blue Angels Mustang, created to celebrate 100 years of U.S. naval aviation

2012 – Red Tails Mustang, to pay homage to Tuskegee Airmen – courageous squadron of P-51 Mustang pilots who were the United States’ first African American military airmen

2013 – U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Edition Mustang, built to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration team

2014 – F-35 Lightning Edition II Mustang, which featured design cues from the world’s most advanced multirole fighter jet – the F-35 Lightning

I wonder what this gen3 was testing when it was running with the camo gen6 cars? Only thing I can think of would be an engine and running a LT4 in it would be pointless. I'm hopeful for a unique engine for the next ZL1.

If we're talking about "special editions" and not just actual models there's been a ton.

Full list
2010: Pace Car, Transformers, Synergy
2011: Indy Pace Car, Neiman Marcus, Synergy, XM
2012: 45th, Transformers 2, Synergy, Honor and Valor
2013: Hot Wheels, Dusk Edition
2014: Spring Edition
2015: Green Flash, Commemorative

Those are just the GM special editions
