Successful DIY Epoxy Flooring ??
Bout to do little make over on my garage ( 360 sq ft ). I got all the storage sorted out, paint scheme and paint purchased, now the floors.
Been thinking about attempting the DIY Epoxy floor kits that are sold at Lowes or Sherwin Williams. I'm aware preparation is key and no my floors aren't sealed or cracked. I assumed it wouldn't be too hard especially from what i've seen/read. I was curious if anyone had a suggestion or one to stay away from?

Just don't paint yourself in the corner and keep your cars off them for at least 2-3 days if you want them to last.

Floor coating
Call and speak with the guys at Armour Poxy. They sell the complete kit and provide all the support. The home stores do not compare.

It's easy, but you HAVE TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.
It sets quick but dries really slow. You need to plan o stay off of it at least 24 hours, more if the temps as cool. I would recomend at least 48. It has some nice benefits. Light reflects from it so you can see better, it is easy to clean up, and it stays cleaner. One the down side, it can scrap off and repairs are almost impossible because it's an epoxy and they dont sell small batches. Personaly I used the flakes. They seem to add a lot to the look. |

yea I'm just concerned about shelling about the money to do it. i have a 18x18 space with a elevated landing area thats about 3 feet. i know the industrial stuff is the way to go, but by the time i get two kits and rent a sander (previous owner left garage a mess, tons of oil and randoms stains on concrete) it wouldn't be far off from doing something like the racedeck tiles.

I have a 24X24 garage and i used the Rustoleum kit from lowes, turned out great, but after a year started to peel. Now 3 years later it looks like crap. The new england weather with all the salt and sand destroyed it.
If i were to do it again i would of spent the money on the good commercial grade stuff.

I bought mine from Lowes also. Did it all myself. Went by the direction completely which I don't usually do. Did it over 4 years ago and it still looks good.
As said, take your time and follow directions. CLEAN floor is very important. |

I just did my new garage floor this past summer. I used Epoxy Coat which I got at Lowes. Its in a 5 gallon bucket with the picture of a yellow Camaro on it. I did a lot of checking and comparison and found this epoxy product was much stronger than the others. So far, so good. It's been very durable and cleans up great. My brother in law used another brand around the same time and his is already peeling up. I used two buckets on mine which provided a thicker coat. Figured thicker would be better and stronger.

Contact Lindsay at racedeck and maybe the same price is available. She is very helpful. As a matter a fact I just spoke to her this week as I needed 4 extra grey tiles and she sent them to me no charge! Great service. Lindsay Tripp at Snaplock Industries TOLL FREE 800-457-0174·801-746-0143·FAX 801-746-0180 INTERNATIONAL *801-746-0143 I paid 500. to have the floor painted the first time and I think the tiles are much better value especially if you have a lot of salt like we do here. The salt ruins the paint fast.

No experience with the garage floor kits, but I can tell you NOT to get the garage floor epoxy floor paint. I got mine from HD. Coverage was not as good as stated and the thing peeled within a couple weeks. This was on the shop floor, no cars or heavy traffic. It appears there was some kind of chemical spilled on the floor. (guessing) Some areas are good, but some just keep peeling up.
Maybe the answer is to chemical etch the concrete prior to trying to coat an old floor. $200 lesson.
