I bought two of them at my local dealer for $50 apiece. I had to show them my drivers license and registration to prove it was my car. They ordered them using my VIN and they came in a few days, pre-cut. I programmed them myself through the DIC. It was a very easy procedure.

I just bought a replacement key, lost my 1st one. Cost me 75$. Another 25$ to get it "programmed" once it arrives.

Yes... mine did that.

Even before that, mine was coming apart... and I wrote a DIY. Here is a fix:

All you do is plug it in the ignition and it programs itself. I did this last month. The DIC reads "3 keys programmed".

any dealer can get you a new key.you'll have to provide proff of ownership(photo id and either registr, ins car or title with your name and VIN on it).if they have the right type of key cutter they can cut the key in as little as 2 min...or they can order it pre-cut from GM.that type of remote/key is cheaper if the dealer cuts it(between 40-50.) or somewhere about an extra 10-15 for a pre-cut.

make sure you bring in your existing key so they can trace the key cuts, otherwise, they will try to charge you for getting the key code from GM.

I bought my car used and whoever had it before me had dogs or some very badly tempered pet that chewed on the keys. I bought a replacement fob on ebay for about $30, swapped the blank blade for the cut one, and spent a couple of seconds to reprogram. It's very easy to do and saves you time of having wait for the dealer do it.

Put a programmed fob in first. Then quickly take it out and put in the new fob!!

A Valet service lost my keys one day!! It was $135 and some change to get a new one!! Valet paid for the lost fob!!

Hope you can get on cheap!!

I just looked at mine too, and there are no raised bumps on the buttons either. not even the panic one. maybe because it's a 2002

when I bought mine used (only 24k miles), one of the remotes had done that. I took it to the dealer (the dealer I bought it from never even let on like it could be replaced, I figured the previous owner just ruined it on purpose until I saw here where others had it happen to them) and got a free replacement under warranty. They told me that someone had been using their nails to open it. I told them I had seen other people have the same problem and they denied that was possible for it to just happen, but replaced it anyway.

The MSRP for the fob you posted a pic of is $40. This price is for a cut key to your vin directly from GM, not just the fob itself. If a dealer wants to charge more than that walk away. You can order one online and just pay the extra for s/h.

Also don't pay to have it programmed. You can program it yourself in less then 10 seconds.
