Whats the best way to get optimal fuel milage

My average mpg is at a good 15.8. Is there something wrong with my engine or something? because i dont drive it too harsh, max rpm i got to is 4000 and thats very limited and I have never gotten better than 16.5 ever since i got the car last year. Im a college student in california so the gas prices are killing me. Does anyone know how to get better milage? or do you think something is wrong with my car?

How often do you reset your avg mpg? Driving conditions will play the biggest factor here.... do you do a lot of highway driving or are you stop and go everywhere you go? What is your avg speed per tank? Generally the lower avg speed the lower mpg due to not covering as much ground. Your mpg arent going to go up very much unless you get up to intestate speeds and are cruising for a while.

When I drive, I'm usually at around 1500-1800rpm. I shift around 3000 or less.

I find that by not taking your time to get up to speed uses less gas. In other words the faster you get up to speed the better the mileage.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your car. When I'm in school I drive about 50/50 highway/city. My average can be up towards 19-21mpg, but right now when all I do is go to work and it's not a far drive my mileage is about 14mpg. These engines are incredibly efficient for having the amount of power they provide, but even so... It might help if I kept my foot out of it though!

My 2010 SS gets like 19 in town(obviously when im being good) and like 22-24 interstate or hwy. i would have to say something is probably wrong with ur car. Have you tried using a different kind of gas? I use nothing but Premium now and i get more miles to the gallon and she runs great. Even though Ethanol is usually cheaper (here in Nebraska it is) it burns faster so ur not gonna get as good of gas milage, but it shouldnt be that bad....

Its mostly in town driving and some highway miles, but im going to reset the meter and try premium fuel this time, maybe that will help. But im going into the dealership sometime next week to get it checked out too.

If it's mostly in town then nothing is wrong with it. The LLT V6 is designed to run on regular gas so unless you are tuned for premium you are just wasting your money. I reset my avg mpg meter with every fill up along with avg speed and trip 1, I use trip 2 to keep up easily with how many miles between oil changes. I find this system very efficient and it makes it easy to see the correlation between avg speed, distance, and mpg

Stop taking off from lights and stop signs like a bat out of hell and your MPG will raise big time. Start off super slow... get to the speed limit as slow as possible.. I was getting around 17-18mpg then I started to drive like an 80-90 year old fart and I get 30+mpg on the way to work!

BTW Premium burns faster and there's no need since your manual tells you to use 87 octane.
