Thanks to the OP. I would never have even thought to look for a gas cap that would work with my ignition key if not for your post. The parts guy at my dealership was able to figure out how to code it, and it's on my car now. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So do I and lock it because 90% of the time I go in the station for something too.

...and Thanks OP, too. I'll be getting this set-up.

I am pretty sure that there is a screen in the filler tube to prevent siphoning of gas. You might ask your dealer repair shop tech. From what I hear they drill the tanks and collect the gas that way. A cap lock may move them to driil if they did not just bust it. I would not woory about it till I lost some gas..

Just saw your post on sugar etc in the tank...that can be a problem but very very rare...

Just got this put in today. For those of you saying that the key needs to be kept in the cap before you close the cap up, that's not entirely true. Unlock the cap, turn it once (or as many times as you want), then re-lock the cap and pull your key out. When you close the cap, it will automatically lock. Now you don't have to have your key sticking out of your cap while you fuel up. :-)

Could a mod move this to Cosmetic modifications instead of maintenance?

Thanks for the tip. It's a pain to tighten when the key is in lol

I just got one of these yesterday. I opened the bag and saw all the parts and panicked, then once you read the instructions it's not bad at all, took me about 30 minutes to assemble and install.

No problem. I wouldn't have even attempted it if my wife didn't say, "Do you reaally trust people enough to fill up with your key sticking out of the gas cap!?" So I thought, "There has to be a way..."

Leaving your car running while filling up can also get you a check engine light! Always fill up with the car off!

I got one of these from my work for $12. It was fun (for me) figuring out the locking pin sequence. This has pins that go in opposite directions, which is pretty slick. This beats the hell out of the Stant cap, with it's lame ass generic key and single-side locking pins. No more worries about some joker putting sugar or sand into my gas tank, and it does lock without the key in it if you needed confirmation.

I ordered one today from dealer.
At first they said they wouldn't sell it to me it was listed for exported vehicles.
But he checked stock at the warehouse and said they had them so he ordered it for me.
Has anyone had any check engine light issues with this cap, or is it a identical cap, just locking?

Its a gm cap so don't worry. Have them set the tumbler when you pick it up. I have had mine for 6 months without a problem
