Just Bought a New Amp Need Advice

I just bought a JL Audio XD700/5 D Class Amp and had some questions. I have the stock Premium Boston Acoustics System. I am replacing the factory amp with the XD700/5. I am going to power the 4 speakers (ive disconnected the center speaker) and a sub. Ive bought the JL 12w3v3-2 so I figured this would run at 2 Ohms at 300W. My question comes in at the speakers. I have read different things about the ohms of stock BA speakers. Will they run at 2 Ohms or 4 Ohms?

Also Am I on the right track here or does something sound horribly wrong with my implementation.

you'll be fine, get the FARK harness from ******** and rock on. I've got the JL xd400 that I replaced the stock amp with and it sounds great.

Yeah, you'll be fine. Since it is a class D amp, it will be smart to know what ohms to run the speakers at. But I thought that the BA speakers ran at 4 ohms

That is the same setup I have, I am assuming you are trying to find out what to set the target AC voltage at, I used 14.1Vac, i.e. 2 ohms. As I understand it, the speakers are 2 ohms but the tweeter are 4 ohms. In any case, 14.1V worked great for me.

I don't know about that amp, but my Alpine PDX amps run at 2 or 4 ohm automatically. I kept the stock speakers up front for a while and they sounded pretty good as long as I didn't over power them.

Is there a way to keep the center speaker? I kind of like using the center speaker, because when I have people in the car their legs tend to block the door speakers. With the center speaker, you still get good volume up front.

Would that require a 5 channel amp?

To run the two rear 6x9s, two 6.5s in the doors, and the center front speaker?

Thanks, sorry for the thread hijack.

Mainly people lose the center speaker because they cheat by using the FARK, or by just using the factory wiring that is already in the car for the speakers. It's certainly possible to keep the center speaker, but it would be more difficult. You would either have to find which wire in the factory harness goes to the center speaker and make sure power is going to it somehow, or you could do it the BEST way, and that is run your own wire to your speakers from your amplifier. You would probably have to take your dash, doors, and floorboards apart though.

A five channel amp wouldn't really work for the center speaker, because the fifth channel is usually 300 or more watts for a subwoofer and not a regular speaker. There are 6 channel amps out there that would work but it seems not a lot of companies make them. Of course you could just buy 2 amps instead.

Apparently there is some confusion as to what ohm's the stock speakers are and what load is presented to the amp because of how they are wired. I am still confused and I don't really know but apparently all of your speakers will be running at 4ohms. A lot of people here are using the amp you have (or the 4 channel version) and it works good for them. Now the sub you will wire yourself for 2 ohms so that won't be an issue.

it actually sounds much better with the aftermarket amp without the center channel. I thought I might miss it, but don't even give it a second thought any more.

The center channel is in the X2 plug on the stock amp in the #3 and #4 pin positions. The ******** harness does not include the pins or wiring for that channel. I would assume one could buy the pins and insert into the X2 harness and then possibly wire it to both front channels. I think the JL XD400 type amp would be fine with those on the same channel split with the front door and tweeters.
