How Dealerships work! Insider Info

For people who dont know dealership terms here they are and hope this helps better understand what it means to get car above msrp or under msrp

MSRP: Manufacture Suggested Retail Price- What the manufacture suggest the dealer prices the car at fair value and still make profit off the car and still brings enough money to pay labor and salesman

Sticker: Sticker price is what the dealer actually list the car for normally is what is considered "mark-up"

Invoice: This is what the dealership will never tell a customer. Invoice is what they buy the vehicle for from the manufacturer. And never will a dealership under an circumstance go below 700 above invoice. No matter if your dad is the General Manager of the dealership.

So what they are referring to is when the say they go below 2k msrp they are actually going 2k below sticker. MSRP is a word they will tell csx in think they are cutting you a deal when actaully they still will be making 2-3k off you.

As far as camaro's the invoice for a 2lt RS is 28.5 and they will list it for 32k "sticker" and the msrp is 31-32k. So with my connection I can get the car at 700 above invoice which will come out to 29,495 + TT&L. Thats with the GMSD discount. (General Motors Supplier Discount)

Actually, you're forgetting holdback. Invoice has a small built-in profit. Holdback does not.

You want to see the invoice on a car? just ask. here's one that was sent via email when I was shopping Earlier in the month. I was sent several. also edmunds will also give vehicle invoice prices, but they don't have dealer installed items on their list.

FWIW, after GMS Pricing discount and the $1000.00 Pontiac loyalty money, my 2ss was $2133.00 under the MSRP/Sticker, which is also under invoice price. got my '06 GTO for under invoice as well.

I believe that virtually everyone here understands what MSRP is. Most of us build a car on the Chevrolet website to determine MSRP, or go to Edmunds.com to determine MSRP and Invoice. And plenty of people, including myself, got $2000+ off MSRP. In fact anyone who used preferred pricing plus the Pontiac/Saturn $1000 incentive on a 2SS/RS saved more than
$2K.

Hey Camaro Scotty, since you are a dealer can you enlighten us all with something as close to the truth as possible? my 2SS MSRP'ed for 38,800 and got it for 36,900 with the supplier discount program (my company and GM have relationship, we sell them high end computer equipment for their data centers)
