CAI Cold Air Intake - Do you have to use CAI Cleaner/Oil?

Hi all. The CAI site says in giant bold letters that you must use their cleaning kit for their filters. Will it cause any issues if I use a K&N recharger kit or is this just simply a request from the folks at CAI? Thanks.

I also saw that under the 'how to recharge your filter' instructions.
Nothing about using only theirs in the warranty section, though.

You shouldn't have a problem man. I ve used my k & n recharger with all my different brands of intakes. Never had any issues.

I figured as such. Just wanted to double check in case there were some kind of horsepower generating micro organisms with special needs in there. Thanks for the help.

CAI has been on here mulitple times saying that you have to use theirs. Not sure if the filter will catch fire or spontaneously melt, but that's what they say.

Let me get this straight. You bought a $400 intake and can't spend the extra $15 to use the recommended cleaner on it?

Our filters are different and our oil solution is different than other companies. Just because both filters are red in color does not make them the same. Other companies oil will not properly soak into and dry with our pleating. We barely make anything on the recharge kits, by the time we order them, manage the inventory, buy packaging for them, etc. we barely break even on them. That being said, there is a reason we sell them and a reason that we have big bold letters disclaiming that only our recharge kit should be used on our filters.

And then ask people on this forum who have nothing to gain/lose when you use a different product and mess something up even though you know they clearly and boldly told you not to. Why not call, email, PM CAI Inc directly and ask them. After all they are the ones who obviously had reason to say that and are also the ones who warranties your product. I understand that a forum is great for opinions and advice, but when it's something specific to a companies product why not just go to them directly and ask, then you have no worries of getting incorrect information.

Jesus kids. It was simply a question out of convenience as I can't pick up some CAI cleaner at the Orielly's down the street. No big deal. Slide the soap box back under your bunk bed.

Fair enough. I suppose cleaning can wait a few days. Would rather give you guys the business anyway.
