You assume that everyone wants to go drag racing. Not the case. Please -- go and read the "thou shalt not" section of the GT-500 owner's manual. The ZL1 is designed for all-out performance - especially on a road course.

Is GM going to honor warranty for people that actually use this car the way?

I'm new here. Might even be my first post. Joined because of the ZL1 and still want one regardless of weight rumors. I'm ecstatic about the power/tq announced but the numbers I'm waiting for will be from the track and strip. I've been buying and modifying GM muscle cars since 1994 (stroked/SC/turbo; 3 Fbods, 3 vettes, 2 GTOs) and not since the Z06 have I seen GM put this much effort and pride into a vehicle. I drive a '08 Z06, and it is perhaps the perfect car. If this ZL1 is half as well thought out, regardless of weight, I promise it will blow us and the critics away.
The bloated CTS-V is 4300lbs in sedan form. In Road and Track August 2011, it beat the 3870lbs 2011 GT500 to 60 by 0.2sec and in the qtr by 0.1sec in a head-to-head comparison. It stopped 2 ft shorter from 60mph, beat it thru the 700 ft slalom, AND got better mielage. I am not worried at all about this ZL1's chances! I plan to deal with the weight by ordering options intelligently, removing useless bits and parts, and considering replacing heavy parts, especially ones that also increase rotational inertia (carbon fiber driveshaft anyone?), and not being fat. Dont forget there is a rumor of a "track package" which is code for down-contented and light weight. Headers, pulley, blower snout,160 Tstat have been good for 50-75hp on other LSA and LS9 motors. BTW, Corvettes ARE for girls. If i wanted to pick up boys I'd drive a Mustang. I have a spare '07 6spd convertible for sale now if you like girls too. |

My brother owns a 2011 5.0. I have been a diehard gm fanboy my whole life, but I can appreciate fast cars. I think Ford got it right...minus putting a cheap manual tranny in it. We took his car to the strip the other night. Do you want to know what it weighs? 3680 without him in it! My f-body came in at 3370 without me in it! I don't even want to post the times he ran..against a new 2011 auto ss for that matter...it really put me in my place |

I do....and have been to the track in every phase of my build with mine. I can tell you flat out the Mustang OWNS the SS out of the box at the strip. |

Dealers clearly know what is going on, I mean, they were the ones that let us know that none would be going to Canada and there would be a limited run of 500.
