Oil Change

hey all,

well i have a very dumb question to ask but i honestly dont know lol, im not much of a car guy and this is my first synthetic car so i dont know how stuff works. But my question is after how many miles should i get an oil change? My car is at bout 4,2** miles right now and i got it with 400 miles on it. And on the dash board, on the panel thing where it says Oil Life its at about 25%, do i change it when its reaching 0%? Or when should I do it? Also, anyone have an idea how much an oil change is for the v6 LT camaro?

Thank you!

The oil life indicator is a very intrinsic and sophisticated system that GM has perfected. It calculates based on several things like RPM, temperature, mileage, etc. I have a V8 but I would say at 25% you should start getting ready to make the change. The system will notify you on your dash at 5% i believe is what it is. Don't go until 0% but don't change it at 30%. Any where in that range should be fine. As for the mileage synthetic can be pushed a lot further than conventional.

Also again I don't know what oil you require however the Mobil1 for the V8's run at $8.99 a quart here in Texas.

Hope this helps.

I did mine at 500, 1500, then at 3000, 10000 and then when DIC would get to about 25% or if I was going to track. But thats just me. I am at 50k now and she runs like new.

Go off of oil life or look up Chevy's recommended intervals. It used to be 3 months or 3000 miles but most manufacturers now say 5000-7000 miles.

That dash panel thingy is your DIC. so check your DIC periodically, you can touch your DIC and see if its up or down, from the last time you checked your DIC. Then it will tell you what is going on. Make your choice about what to do depending on what your DIC shows. hope that helps.

I would change it now. I don't pay much attention to what the oil life meter says. I changed mine at 1500, and I plan on doing every 5K miles or so after that.

Or after 1 year as I don't put enough miles on it per the oil monitor.

I drive in heavy traffic. When not in that, I ROAR through the gears often. I change every 4K ish. I have 42K miles, today, it runs like a top.

Oil is cheap insurance, as are filters. I do mine every 3-4, 000 miles. Never had a car wear out. 'nuf said.

I changed mine at 1500 miles or so. I'm at 5300 right now. I'll probably do it every 5K-7K even though OnStar said it would be good to around 11,000 miles LOL.
