Opening The Trunk When Car is Locked

Can anyone explain the logic behind being able to open the trunk with the switch on the door when the car is locked and the key is not in the ignition?

The rear seat folds down anyway, it's not like the trunk is a safety deposit box.

You can? Maybe it's only when recently locking/unlocking the doors? I remember reading a post from another member who accidentally locked his keys in the trunk, and once he was able to go through the window and get the door open (hours later), he had to have his wife go through the back to open the trunk release, because the trunk button didn't open the trunk.

Agreed.

I like to lock the .45 in the trunk when I leave the car hence my motivation for asking the queston.

I believe in most states, this is not considered a locked container and you will get in trouble for transporting a firearm this way.

I have a conceal carry permit so where I lock it or put it is not an issue.

Answered my own question. Hit the LOCK button on the FOB twice and the trunk can't be opened with the switch on the drivers door.
