Id say 3000 miles is good....usually it's 5000 miles between oil changes so 3000 miles that is pampering

I did 1500 for the first one. Everyone in the service department told me I wasted my free oil change.

If you do normal driving following the oil life monitor will not hurt or harm your vehicle. Think of it this way, GM is giveing you a 100,000 mile warranty on the powertrain so if it would be harmful in any way it would put a risk of running up thier warranty dollar expenses which is not good for them. I have been at dealerships since 98 and was on the pilot program with the oil life monitor and since they started this the amount of engines we have done under warranty has actually gone down, believe it or not! The main reasoning behind it is with less unneccessary oil changes it leaves more money in the customers pocket for the rest of the services needed to keep you baby running smoothly and maintained properly for years to come. The oil life monitor monitors may things going on in the engine in order to calculate when it is needed and the expected point where the oil will begin to "break down" When you do do your oil change make sure you use a high quality filter and oil (I personally use synthetic but thats my choice and well above GM specs) and that you follow all the recomended services stated in the owners manual. Do this and you are in the clear for many years to come. The other advice I have stay away from the add ons that the dealer of independant shop may pitch BG flushes MOC and there are a 100 others. They are all crap and just take your money. The best advice from myself and I feel I have the backround to say follow the owers manual to a T

Get the factory fill out and do your car a favor and refill with AMSOIL for the life of your car. Go to the website, do your own investigation don't take my word for it.

I did my first oil change at 1500 miles (1498 to be exact), and the dealer said that they recommended to do the oil change every 3,000 miles after that. They of course told me this after they filled the car with Moble 1 and charged me $80 to do the oil change. I’m thinking I might try to stretch the car more than 3,000 miles considering how much the oil change will cost every time I do it.

Same here changed to Mobil 1 At 1500 miles, and the guys at the service said I didn't have to, but that changing to Mobil 1 was a good thing.

I did my at 3k just to get anything that might have shaved off out.
now I'm doing one per the oil life meter in the car, which the dealer did not reset on mine so I did it. I don't drive it too hard but I do put it away wet. :-)

also the ss takes an extra 2 quarts to that bumped my oil change up a bit.

ok i think im gonna get my oil changed soon, im over 2000 miles now but the oil life is only down to 78%

my dealer told me to just trust the oil life monitor, but i don't trust that, i will be near 6000 miles before the oil life is down to 0%

I changed my factory fill at 500, 1000, and 3,000 miles. After that, I go until the oil life monitor gets to 5%...that's usually 10,000 miles.

Exactly. Plus, you are following what GM recommends, so if the engine fails, it's on their dime during 5yrs/100,000 miles. Why mess with any of that by doing something different?

I changed my oil on my SS for the first time @ 3,000 miles using my one free dealer oil change.
I just did my second change today @ 8200 miles using Mobil-1 5w30 and a filter I bought at my Chevy dealer for $7.50 (cheap !). I went to a local shop who let the oil drain for 20 minutes.
I plan to change mine every 5,000 miles from here on. Cheap insurance.
