hope i dont get screwed over. speedo off due to gears
so as most probably know, i dropped my beast off at my local chevy dealership to get my 4.11's installed last friday. When i went to pick her up yesterday, the rep tells me everything went in great, except, "your speedometer will be off by a few mph. i know we told you we'd calibrate it, but at the moment wedont have that program available. when it comes available in the next few months we can go ahead and fix it." so i said, "alright, a couple of mph off isnt too big of a deal."
well, as im driving home, i realize my speedo was reading 95, and my garmin hand held navi was reading 65. not to mention my odometer was counting every mile i drove as 1.7 miles...so i call the dealer this morning, and they say theyll do some research and call me back monday. with your experiences, should i have to pay for any programing they may need to do to correct the issue, and also what would be a fair resolution if they cannot calibrate my speedo and im stuck with a car that racks up miles twice as fast as a normal car?

Can't help you with your question, but I do know any handheld tune machine can fix this for you.

HPtuners can fix this.. but it'll void your warranty..
UNLESS you can clear it with them IN WRITING and show them that is all you are going to change with a tune. Just to make it so they honor your warranty. They might even be able to get this done at a local shop they know for you. |

Uhh o. Your in a situation. I'd be pretty upset myself. I'd make them ok you getting the hypertech calibrator.

The only way to correct it is with a tune, and I'm sure the dealer is well aware of this and TBH you should have known going in.

Come on, you had to know this ahead of time... just buy a Hypertech tuner and be done with the warranty because if you don't, the warranty will run out because of mileage soon anyway
I have Richmond 4.10s sitting at my desk because the order was released before I added the 4.11s into the system. Knew about the speedo because of Jeeps that I've changed gears & tires on... figured I'd install headers at the same time since I need a tune anyway

You do not need a tune to change the speedo calibration. Like I posted, the Hypertech Speedomoter calibrator is not a tune. It just reprograms the speedo. If you get the dealer to buy it and install it, which they should since they said they would recalibrate it, then it will not void your warranty. All it changes is the speedometer calibration. Summit Racing sells it for $200.

This solves all.
In-Line Speedometer Calibrator Module Hypertech’s In-line Speedometer Calibrator Module is an in-line module to correct the speedometer and odometer for non-stock tire sizes and/or rear gear ratios. This module is perfect for vehicles with computers that don’t allow for tire size and/or rear gear ratio correction or re-calibrate for tire sizes and/or rear gear ratios outside the range of programmers. Using the USB cable connect, the In-line Speedometer Calibrator Module to your PC and enter the new tire height and/or rear gear ratio. There are no limitations for increasing tire height or rear gear ratios. Next, disconnect the factory connector to the instrument cluster (behind the dash), snap in the Speedometer Calibrator Module, reconnect the cluster, and you’re done! In a matter of minutes, you can accurately correct your speedometer and odometer readings (as required by law). |
