With the right tune and fueling it will last a while but not forever so when it does let to be prepared for it.

For added fuel quality insurance, I run a quart of torco with every fill up on my camaro. Ted at JRE tuned my maggie fitted L99 and he gave me two different tunes, a standard 91 octane tune and a +93 octane tune which produces noticably more kick in the rear!!!

For both I fill up with 91 pump gas and add the quart of torco which brings my octane up to around 97. More then needed but good insurance.

Ya a quart of torco is not cheap every fill up but neither is replacing an engine. Full plan to do that when the time comes but want this one to hang in there as long as possible so I can save up and go the short block build just how I want it for some serious longevity and higher performance numbers, will be looking for around 700 RWHP at that time. Right now I am around 550 or bit more with the high octane tune. Nothing dramatic but a hell of a fun street ride with the 3.91 posi rear end.

Not just any octane booster from the auto parts store!!! An entire bottle of that will only take you from 91 to 91.1.

Torco Accelerator FTW. 16oz added to 15 gallons raises 91 octane to about 93.5

I but it by the 5 gallon drum! I also have access to sunoco 104 and blend in about 3 gallons per fill up. I am running between 95 and 96 octane on each tank just for safety.

I alternate between Torco and the Sunoco....the torco is a little cheaper

A good friend of mine has 150-160k miles on his supercharged SS truck. The blower was put on around 5k miles. Thats a heavy truck so I'm sure there is alot of pressure on the motor.

It will live long with the right tune...just don't forget to use a garden hose and wash your pistons every 5000 miles.

One more "magic" potion to assure longivity....Don't get stupid with the revs. If you maintain a sensible red line in addition to good tune and good octane, you'll have a better chance of your motor lasting more than a few miles. My LS3 is going great after 30K+ boosted miles and almost 4 years at 650rwhp. Never revs north of 6250 rpm.

Most people don't know that obvious advice. Very little people know what deto is and even fewer know how to avoid it.

Thanks guys, is torco pretty expensive? I'm not experienced with fuel additives at all.. A safe tune and octane boosting seems to pretty much be the solution, I figure a good knock sensor for added protection is a good thing too, right? (Also, I think I know what det/knock is, and I believe it's caused by running too lean/too hot/not enough octane/too much boost, correct?)

12 oz of torco mixed with 15 gallons of 91 oct would put you at 93.

Its about 19 bucks and some change by the 6 pack per quart

or $13.75 per quart if you buy the 5 gallon drum.

So about 10 extra bucks per fillup. I think its worth it for the piece of mind.
