New Member First thread, lots of questions :-)

Hello all,
First off, thanks for all the things I have learned lurking on the forum! I picked up my 2ss/rs on 09/08/09 and I have loved every minute of it! Sure, GM missed a couple of things but overall this car is everything I hoped it would be! Can't believe the attention it still gets! Rarely does it get driven that I don't end up talking to somebody about it. Lots of fun!

The car is stock right now, but lots of stuff in the works. Found out on the forum yesterday that interior trim kits are now available, called my dealer he didn't believe me ( i have been pestering him ever since I bought the car ) so he looked it up, again, and there they were! So interior is on its way. I was feeling lucky so I told him to look up the other thing I wanted. I really like the ground FX rear diffuser but didn't want the whole fx package. Sure enough I could now order the diffuser by itself! This leads to first question. I was told the exhaust has to be cut to install the diffuser, since they are cutting on it anyway I thought now would be a good time to install a different exhaust, this car should sound like a muscle car!

1. Any input as to which availble exhaust systems sound the best?

I want that low grumble when she starts up! I will also be supercharging so performance from the exhaust obviously comes into play.

2. I have been reading tons of threads about supercharging, but if someone has a setup they just love I would really appreciate hearing about! I want a good hp upgrade, but don't want to get into internal mods or changing the hood right now.

3. I want to order up new springs to lower it a bit and sway bars. Anybody have experience with a setup that they love?

4. All right opinion time, Hurst or MTI shifter?

I have been having a lot of problems with 2nd to 3rd. It is possible to get a smooth shift but you absolutely have to palm the shifter up to center and take almost all pressure off it to let it center exactly and the go into 3rd, this will give good result about 80% of the time, still get the occasional grind. Clutch all the way to floor and definately not the sync I am feeling/hearing. After reading on here i took it into the dealer today and they are changing the oil (2nd oil change, I have 4008 miles on it) and they are changing the diff and trans fluids. Told the shop to take a look at the shifter linkages and to be sure and inspect fluids for metal. Any other things to look into?

Also had the clutch hang up on me when taking off the other day, was switching from 1st to 2nd at about 4.5K and the clutch froze half way up. I got off the gas instantly tried to push clutch back down, wouldn't go, slid foot under it and was able to pop it up. Burn't clutch smells wonderful huh? Clutch has acted normal ever since, but I asked them to investigate. Any thoughts? This happen to anyone else?

While its in the shop I also asked them to reprogram the USB interface to see if it will clear up the problems I have been having trying to use ipods, pretty glitchy system, but cool when it works.

That should pretty much sum it all up. I love the car and I can't believe how much fun it is to drive! Thanks for any input and keep the posts coming, so much to learn!

Welcome!

Can't really help you with the mods... mine is still stock as well (but 3k less miles too).

As for exhaust, I've seen some nice ones on youtube, do some searches on there. Definately take more of a look around here... always find good DIYs!

Grats on the 5th Gen!!

Please let us know if the USB gets any better. My car keeps forgetting the iPod touch is plugged in. I have a high VIN (62,619), but maybe there have been updates that help.

Welcome! A Noob as well. Haven't decided on which SLP package I will end up with. Love their sound (my Corvette buds have those pipes). Have a CAI ordered. Where did you find the interior packages (link please). Enjoy your new ride!

Welcome to the site.

as far as exhaust...it's really personal opinion. Try to hear as many systems in person (on Camaros) as you can. Most of the clips on youtube don't sound all that accurate, especially at startup. There's Solo, Borla, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Spintech, Corsa, MBRP, SLP and a few others. Since you're going with a SC, you'll probably want headers as well. American Racing and Kooks seem to be the best choice.

As far as superchargers go...everyone that's bought one seems to love it, so I'm not sure you can go wrong with any of them. Do your own research to see what works best for you and your budget. My tuner came back from SEMA raving about the edlebrock SC...so for my car, I'd check that out.

I have Pfadt springs and sway bars...love the way it looks and handles. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51670

and last but not least shifters...also check out MGW & Barton, haven't heard any negative opinions on them.

As far as the shifter I have installed and used both. I would suggest you consider the Barton also. It has far more adjustability than the others and it is very quiet.
The shifter and CAI were the first changes I made. I would consider a CAI also.

Wow, what great responses! Thanks! This site is great! I gave the dealer the list of updates mentioned that I wanted. They couldn't find them! From this site I found my way to the GM TIS system and printed out the update info and faxed to dealer and what do you know, they found them!

Where did I find interior trim? My local chevy dealer is getting it for me, shipped yesterday! http://www.classicchevrolet.com/index.htm Talk to Scott in the parts department, he's great.

1. Exhaust: Decided to hold off on the new diffuser till I reach a decision about the exhaust system. Gotta find some modified systems here in NE Oklahoma so I can hear them in person. Has anyone seen tips designed to match the trapezoid on the GFX rear diffuser?

2. SC- Have lots of research left to do, just scatched the surface. You guys are giving me just what I needed, pointers to good info. THX! I want to get my whole upgrade planned so that the CAI, Exhaust, Headers, and SC all are complementary.

3. Suspension: Ok I am intrigued by the coilover packages I have been reading about. The ability to make further adjustments really appeals to me rather than just installing lowered springs. Anybody have the Pedders coilovers on, or recommend another?

4. Shifter: After lots of reading and looking at pics I decided to try the Hurst Shifter. I love the looks of the T-Handle and the Hurst flat shifter arm. The results with the Hurst seem to be really mixed with some having perfect results and others getting some noise. Figured I would take my chances and see what happens. Should be here in a week.

5. 2nd to 3rd issues. of course the dealer said they couldn't hear anything while shifting! anyway they changed the diff and tranny fluid, stayed with GM fluid for now will change if not happy with results, it definately improved the shifting of the car. I still get a little bit of grind but nothing like it was. Will see what happends when I change out the shifter.

6. Clutch: Read a very interesting thread yesterday about changing out the fluid to a fluid with higher boiling point. Apparently there are several people with this problem, constantly smelling a slight burning of the clutch, clutch hanging up, etc.. Will update when I get it done and see if it helps. Dealer said there was nothing wrong with clutch.

7. USB update: Before the update the system would only recognize that I had plugged in my iphone, but wouldn't take control of it. Sometimes it would play music with me controling itunes on the phone but usually I couldn't get anything out of it. After the update, plugged in Iphone and got instant connection with full functionality! Looks to be working great!

8. Also had update to ECM regarding traction control issues leading to Wheel Hop when in competitive mode. Honestly I usually just turn Traction control off when I am driving hard, I am a bit of a control freak. However, I will test this and see what results are once the weather clears up a bit. I have never tried out the launch controller so I might play with it now that the updates are installed and see how it works.

Worse news of the day: Some !@#$!@%!% dinged my door!!!!! I always park way out in the boondocks just to prevent this. However, I had to park in a crowed lot for a school program the other night and sure enough! Will post pics later. No damage to panel, just paint stripped off about 3/4" long by 1/8" wide on passenger door. Can't wait to see what that will cost. Probably have to paint the whole panel to blend it.

1. might i recommend a muffler delete
2. I know you said you want to keep the insides the same, but my favorite is a super charger with a cold air intake. There are tons of great mods in the car journels section of the site.
3. uuhhhhh...you like for not going in straight lines??!?!!?
4. HURST!!!
