Uh...yeah.
And no, it's not distracting in the least once you get used to it...just like shifting a manual, or reading gauges in a car.

It has nothing to do with how much you can afford to spend on a car....

The Corvette (with Hud) has a very specific market. Most car enthusiasts that can spend that much moeny for a car are likely more adept to handle such a distracting mod and drive fine.
I'll tell you what is a big mistake..thinking money=sense and/or skill.

See the original post.

No Nav besides OnStar...(which is now visually shown on HUD in cars equipped with it)

I have to agree with Dragoneye here... I mean really you have to give people a LITTLE more credit.

That said I used to turn off the HUD whenever I raced my C5 Vette on the track out Autocross, too distracting - got in the way.

“The 304 horsepower in the 2010 Camaro was actually a conservative rating on our end,” said Tom Sutter, GM V-6 chief engineer. “But we knew already that this award-winning engine produced at least the amount of power we stated, but now we’ve gone the extra step in certifying the engine for this application and have verified an additional 8 horsepower.”

Like many of you have said I read into this to believe that the 2010 Camaro V6 may also be in the 312hp range. Also note that not all engines coming off the line produce exactly the same hp rating, you will always have varations.

GM may have only done some computer tweaking to get the extra 8 hp.

What we will need to see is some dynos numbers of the 2010 vs 2011 v6's.

On the HUD GM had to do this. Since the Camaro can play many roles outside of just being a daily comute car people will be using it at the track as well. Monitoring temps can be critical as well as keeping your eyes on the road so looking down to see your temp gauge is not a great idea. However they could have just made it an option.

Wait I have the official spy photo of the Homer Camaro in synergy green. Notice they fixed the gas cap on the wrong side issue.

'Once you get used to it - my point exactly. How often have you been cut off by some bonehead that just did'nt look, care, got caught up in the radio, etc., etc.

IN MY OPINION, cost has alot to do with it. USUALLY the driver of a car that costs more than average, tends to be a bit more 'car conscious' in that they watch out for traffic, getting hit, getting cut off, etc. because 1-they are a car enthusiast and simply love to drive or 2-simply for the $$ they forked out.
If you drive a bike, you know what I mean. Bikers are much more in tune to traffic and their own position, status, etc. than alot of others on the road.

HUD is meant to alleviate the distraction of looking away from your windshield and surroundings, but it can also have the opposite affect.

It takes about 15 secs to get use to the HUD in an F-16. All you have to do is adjust the seat height properly and it is pretty intuitive. A monocle system takes some time (different for everybody) to get use to, but that is because outside imagery (of things you see THROUGH the aircraft body) is projected into that eye. It still is easy to get use to and doesn't distract from the outside. Binocular systems are just like a HUD, completely intuitive from the get go.
