And no, it's not distracting in the least once you get used to it...just like shifting a manual, or reading gauges in a car. It has nothing to do with how much you can afford to spend on a car.... |

That said I used to turn off the HUD whenever I raced my C5 Vette on the track out Autocross, too distracting - got in the way.

“The 304 horsepower in the 2010 Camaro was actually a conservative rating on our end,” said Tom Sutter, GM V-6 chief engineer. “But we knew already that this award-winning engine produced at least the amount of power we stated, but now we’ve gone the extra step in certifying the engine for this application and have verified an additional 8 horsepower.”
Like many of you have said I read into this to believe that the 2010 Camaro V6 may also be in the 312hp range. Also note that not all engines coming off the line produce exactly the same hp rating, you will always have varations. GM may have only done some computer tweaking to get the extra 8 hp. What we will need to see is some dynos numbers of the 2010 vs 2011 v6's. On the HUD GM had to do this. Since the Camaro can play many roles outside of just being a daily comute car people will be using it at the track as well. Monitoring temps can be critical as well as keeping your eyes on the road so looking down to see your temp gauge is not a great idea. However they could have just made it an option.

IN MY OPINION, cost has alot to do with it. USUALLY the driver of a car that costs more than average, tends to be a bit more 'car conscious' in that they watch out for traffic, getting hit, getting cut off, etc. because 1-they are a car enthusiast and simply love to drive or 2-simply for the $$ they forked out. If you drive a bike, you know what I mean. Bikers are much more in tune to traffic and their own position, status, etc. than alot of others on the road. HUD is meant to alleviate the distraction of looking away from your windshield and surroundings, but it can also have the opposite affect.
