Not exactly right but CLOSE.

I'm a little surprised none of you guys had anticipated that this would happen. It was happening back in 1994 when I bought my first new Z28. The dealers get allocations for a certain number of cars but they only fill whatever orders they want to. If you ordered a paint color which they had production problems with, then they would put white cars on "constraint" and someone with another color would get built (possibly taking up your "allocated" car from your dealer). I had to wait 9 months for my 1994 Z28 to get built, and they (cleverly) decided to build it the month before they switched over to 1995's. I said they must make it a 1995 and give me "price protection" and they did. So I received my car in September and drove it for 2 months and had to put it away for the winter... when I could have had it for 6-7 more months if they had not put it on "constraint".

First of all, realize that if this were normal circumstances; we would not be involved in this right now. And none of us would ever know the difference, because pre-ordering would have started...sometime now.

With that -- don't panic regarding the whole V8 vs V6 thing. Not yet. Last time this topic came up there was so much misinformation and misinterpretation it was dangerous. It's not like they're cancelling the car, just hang in there -- I'm sure we'll get a good reason for it in time.

**Realizing this isn't the end of the world...Keeping the faith...waiting patiently.**

This is a gimmie from GM and does not go against their allocation. Other cars that follow will be based on dealer consensus and allocation on a monthly basis.

Greg - so if my dealer was allocated 10, and I was order #2 (for a 2LT) and #1 was an SS - would I be looking for that first V6 that the dealer is getting in April/May? Or is that 1st car just going to go on the dealer's lot?

A 4 week delay isn't that big of a thing, people. It gives us time to save more money for the car, time for the roads to clear of snow and gravel, and time for GM to make sure this car is the best it can be at launch.
Its not the delay of production, yea 4 weeks is no big deal but its the fact that a very small number of SS's are going to be built at first because they want the V6 models out first. I just noticed the clock at the top has been updated, thats gotta be killin you guys that ordered.

From what im reading, its not the push back of production, its the very limited run of V8's gonna be made out of the gate.

I'D SAY KEEP YOUR ORDER IN...ITS MONEY IN THE BANK.....
But the way it was explained is it is a presold orders only with GM - if I cancel now the dealership does not get a car built and shipped to them.....it would be different if I wait for it to be delevered adn I don't take delivery.

I don't blame my dealership but why have GM build a presold order that I have no idea when I wil get it??? I am the customer not the dealership. It was presold order right?????

Don't be so sure, they are going to look at it month to month! That means if your dealership isn't selling other rides, watch out.

In the end this ALL has to do with one acronym.

C.A.F.E.

V8 Models hurt the bottom line in CAFE regulations. They simply CANNOT build the cars because we want them... they are FORCED to meet this silly standard or else pay out the nose for not meeting it.

GM are a bunch of douchebags for the way they have treated us loyal customers. They should have warned that these things would happen because of CAFE, and they should have done some other things differently with this "preorder" deal and the ABL and HUD fiascos, and they deserve all the ire you guys can give them. But just remember the reason you didn't get an SS isn't by GM's CHOICE... they are forced to focus on V6 models because of CAFE. Nothing else.

GM knew looking as the preorders flowed in over the past couple months that ONE THING WAS CONSISTENT=> 3:1 V8/V6
We (the dealers) were told via IDL before Oct. 13th that focus was going to be on V6. GM tip toed around that 80/20 V6 V8 split. Therefore, dealers who were serious about Camaro and wanted to represent the car correctly should have done the right thing and communicated to customers, there may be a chance that V8's will tough to get.

Also told that the enthusiast will come 1st! The reason for the car being in production again, and they knew what enthusiast want V8s.
