Questions: Cleaning polish dust, etc.

Just looking for some advice.

So I have finished SHR, but I have a dilemma. Should I:

1. Waterless wash each panel to remove dust before FMP?

or

2. Just wash the car over?

Thanks in advance.

I would just do a IPA wipe down. That should work just fine. If not just wipe it down with some detail spray.

You don't need to do anything. You go SHR then FMP immediately.

Correct. It says on the bottle to leave the SHR residue on the car and go directly to FMP

Are you letting the car sit for a long time between steps? Like overnight or something?

If not, no reason to do anything... just continue on with your polishing.

If you are doing SHR, then coming back the next day to do FMP them it would be in your best interest to clean the paint prior to starting to polish again.

The car has to sit overnight (garaged).

I am more concerned about the polish dust and whether waterless wash is the best alternative.

If you haven't wiped off all the SHR and inspected your paint, then how do you know if you're ready for FMP?

I have wiped off the SHR and inspected.

I'm talking about the polish dust that comes from hitting the pad's edge on tape or a panel crease.

Then I would follow Dylan's advice. He does this for a living.

The polish dust doesn't matter. Just go straight to FMP. If you are letting it sit overnight, then you need to wipe it down because you will get real dust on the car, which you don't want to drag around your paint at 5000 OPMs.

Thanks for all the help so far everyone. I ended up just washing the car down with water and foaming it...all dust gone. But now I have another question:

1. I have done FMP on every panel expect the bumpers, but have concerns about FMP. Can you use too little? When ever I worked the product it just seemed to go super thin really quick unlike SHR. I tried DS to rejuvenate the pad and it worked to an extent. Sometimes it just seemed like I was working greasy DS. My pad isn't clogged so I at least I didn't over use it.

Any thoughts?

You can always use too little, but that depends on the size of the area you're working.

How much are you using and what size area are you covering with that amount??

I usually do 1X1 or 2x2 area. For example, I broke the roof into about 9 sections. Used 3 pea-sized drops to start and then DS after that.
