Exclamation ticking noise and high pitched hum

help i have a ticking noise coming from the left side of the motor near the rear of it while idling dont believe its a lifter noise or internal also, have high pitched hum or buz with key on acc, car off, can hear inside car but louder outside, sounds louder underneath near middle of car, when you turn key off, noise will stop and you will hear a noise, like a relay shutting off, anybody else have these symptoms, and had them looked at? thanks for any assist

Mine does it - the sound when it is off..

I chalk it up to some kind of relay or electrical matter since it stops pretty much the same exact amount of time every time.

If your running your AC and the ticking sound is just once in awhile it could be the compressor kicking on and off. And the buzz you hear when you turn your key to acc is just your fuel pump priming the system, it also runs for a second or 2 when you shut your car off to relieve the pressure on the fuel system if I'm not mistaken. Remember, bigger engine means bigger and louder fuel pump to feed that bad boy.

the ticking noise is from the direct fuel injecting pump.
it is normal.

if you listen to this clip, you'll hear the exact same ticking sound.

I have the same dropping noise from the engine somewhere after shutting the engine off.

I believe he has a 2SS. It is not "direct injected".

High pitch wine or hum

The high pitch hum or wine happens when the engine is off or on. It is easier to hear when the engine is off.

Turn the key on and switch everything electrical off. Turn the ac fan on just one click. After about 10 seconds, the wine/hum starts. Turn the fan off, and the hum/wine stops. Turn the fan back on and the hum/wine starts again. Turn the headlights on and the wine/hum quiets down, but doesn't go completely away.

It's a very high pitch, so some of us older gents may not be able to hear it due to natural hearing loss over the years. it reminds me of the Mosquito ring tone that the kids use on their cell phones so adults can't hear when they ring.

I hope this isn't normal operation for the electrical system. I'm going to bring my SS/RS to the dealer mechanic when I get it back from the body shop (it was rear-ended on the fifth day I had it - but that's another story).

I'd sure appreciate it if some of you can try the above test and see if your cars do it, too.

Exactly what I hear. Just thought it was my old ears playing tricks on me but could tell it went away after I shut the car down. I can hear it even more when I'm using the phone through bluetooth.

I was just about to suggest to turn off the radio and see if it's coming through the stereo speakers. Could be interference, I get that every once in a while, very light sound. I have to really be listening for it.

It may be a different pitch from the one that you hear, but I too have heard it when I turn the car off and the exterior lights either turn on or remain on when I open the door. I turned off the option that turns the exterior lights on for 30 seconds when I exit the car so that the lights no longer remain on. This got rid of this particular pitch.

As for the ticking noise, mine seems to be related to the engine RPM and it can be easily heard when it is under 2000. It was annoying at first and I think it has slowly gone away or maybe I just got used to it. My car though still only has under 400 miles on it.
