So I was sitting there tonight thinking this is great to stop it re-entering the system but from the picture i took it looks like i can fit more wire mesh into the top of the can where the oil comes into it (see the gap/shadow area where the mesh has fallen down in the center)
I took it back off the car removed the top 90degree fitting and shoved about 1/3 of the mesh you can see in the picture above into the top, then the remaining mesh packed that around the inside again. So basically you can fit the whole lot into it and it still fits nice and snug. Reinstalled the fitting blew air through it to make sure it was not blocked again 100% perfect air will always find its way through the wire mesh. Went for a short test drive to make sure everything was fine, oil pressure was normal, along with oil temps, gave it a few good squirts car runs fine. Checked the can after driving it has already caught a small amount of oil...very little but a small amount. Current km's before this adjustment are: 18,372kms (11,415miles) I'll recheck it again in 1000-2000kms (1609-3218miles) time and take the blower top off again etc. I feel that this should be a permanent solution to the problem now, I also feel many people should do this it will certainly do no harm and it will help trap anything your current setup isn't getting. I have messaged Elite Engineering about this and they said this was a good idea, it would have been nice if it came like this from Elite but hey now they can learn too from what we have learned. |

Well I am just over 20,000km's now and I said i would re-check the blower to see how the catch can is working....sad to see it looks to be the same as before even with the additional wire mesh that i have used. The length of time is no where near the same 2,000km's this check up versus the last which was 18,372km's.
As I said before I'd hate to see what it looks like without a catch can at all....but certainly this has not be solved yet...I'll continue to work on it and improve it after more engine bay room is created and the future mods are installed. Anyway here is the pictures. 20,000km check up after it was cleaned at 18,372km 20,000km check up after it was cleaned at 18,372km --------------------------------------------------------------------- For a comparison this is the 18,372km check up, as you can see it has more volume of oil as it's over a much longer period but it's still very similar to the 20,000km check up. previous 18,372km check up previous 18,372km check up |

Too much blow-by in your engine. We removed and opened up my freinds blower in his ZR1 yesterday to change pulley and injectors. 10,000 miles and it looks brand new inside. No oil at all.
And there is no catch-can on his car.

My Elite Catch can caught probably 1/5 to 1/4 of the can capacity in the first 1500 miles.

I'll be relocating my catch can and installing a 2nd one after I get my mods installed.
For the time being I have installed more steel mesh in the actual can base. Z06 Bryan do you have photos of the blower with the lid removed. |

And excess blow-by is generally from rings that haven't seated well.
