Maybe it has to do with the orinigal problem they had with the v6 manual tranny. We know that the second gear synchro was a problem, maybe they added something as a reinforcer or preventitive

Mine has never been smooth going from 1st to 2nd. Very clunky, but it always goes into gear. I typically make the shift between 2k & 3k so I can't comment about shifting above 4000 rpm. All other gear transitions are fine.

After 1800 miles it has smoothed out a fair amount.

By the way, my VIN is in the 51,000 range.

Has anyone added a short throw shifter then had issues i am wondering if all the issues are coming from those that have added a short throw shifter. Is anyone having Issues with a shock shifter by chance to prove my theory wrong

Hmmm....maybe I'll choose the 60 day guaranty over the $500 cash back just in case this IS a problem.

Yeah i dont know what to tell you bad but i know i love this car it just seams to have some issues like every other car. It should be repairable but just dont want it to affect trade in value

So i took my car to the dealer today and they just called and told me that nothing was wrong if anything its my shifter. I should have more details tomorrow after i talk to the tech. They were nice enough to say they could take out the shifter and charge me to problem solve it if i wanted. Anyone have some good insite here?

Wonder how much of this has to do with the motor/tranny torquing over under load.... Wondering if engine torque limiters would help..

I have a V8 m6 and I've experienced similiar problems to
those posted so I don't think it's only V6's though the transmissions are different. I mistakenly shifted from 1st to 4th one day and since then if um gunning it it will not do the 1st to 2nd smoothly or sometimes at all. It seems
like if I'm turning I cannot shift and then when I straighten out
I have to really put pressure on it to go into 3rd since 2nd it
usually impossible.
Sometimes even if I'm in first and not going to upshift my Driver Information Center will display the 1st to 4th error message when my foot us nowhere near my clutch or hand near my shifter.

Basically when you load up the motor (stomp on the gas), the motor and tranny torque over... they actually move quite a bit! Thought that things are moving enough to kind of throw off the shifter...

You can see how much the motor moves:

Mine actually grinds in the 4500-5500 RPM range. And at normal driving if I shift at about 2500-3000 it takes some force to get it in and the clutch is very chunky at that point.. if I let it out too fast it jumps and bucks, if i go too slow it wants to go VROOOOOWWWM and over rev into the gear. 1st to 2nd is the ONLY gear it does it in.
