Keeping Cats off the roof! Convertible?

Nice week long sunny streak here in Ontario, but getting frustrated as there is a cat that keeps sleeping on my Convertible top! No, it's not my cat. I have spoken to the cats owner, that lives a BLOCK away.
The Cat has been outside for a good half a year now, and I really didn't care because it wasn't sleeping on my car!!
I don't have the luxury of a garage, only a Lean-to car port (roof only) no walls. I have hung up moth balls, and bought an ultrasonic frequency thingy that is supposed to scare them away. With all that, he still goes up, walks across my hood, sits on the roof for a minute and then runs.

Any idea how I can keep this cat off my car??

I am getting really tired of having to de-hair my convertible top every damn day and he is bound to start scratching my paint!

When I spoke to the owner, (2X now), he says he tries to keep the cat inside but hey what can you do...it's a cat!!

WTF is wrong with people man?!?

LOL some cat owners think that's cute. Not much you can do because it's an owner problem not a cat problem. Google "get rid of cats" for options. Try a car cover.

Neighbors cats crap all in the old ladies gardens. If they have never been trapped before, a can of tuna in oil (it smells more) and an animal trap will snag it an what you do from there is your call.

Car Cover is not practical as this is my Daily Driver, sometimes I come home for an hour, then off again and the car will not always be 100% clean, so putting on a cover that will rub grit into the paint....doesn't make sense.

I have google'd and that's how I came up with the ultrasonic device and moth balls.

I feel like wile e coyote trying to get the road-runner.

I do like cats, don't get me wrong. But I should also not have to give up and just let "cats be cats" and have the thing scratch the hell out of my car and damage my roof. It's just hair for now, but I am sure it's not good in the long run...also again why should I have to drive around in a nice car that looks like a friggin cat bed?

I guess I should just get a bunch of cat stickers for the back window and let my wife drive it so at least she can look like a crazy cat lady?

Wait until the cat decides to do it's claw thing on your ragtop and your neighbor refuses to pay for the damage.

Down here we have serious feral cat problems from people feeding entire populations of them in wooded areas. My dogs hate them and the cats will stay just the other side of the fence since the dogs have proven to be small animal assassins.

My wife likes cats too, but she can't have them because, like I said, her dogs don't. She complains when they get in her stuff or start peeing in a certain area, but then she doesn't like having to get rid of them either. If she does catch one, she tries to rehome it. I view them as varmints. People have no problem trapping armadillo, possum and coon, but get all weird about cats. Cats are not indigenous to the area; the other animals are.

Trap and relocate my friend. Not cruel, no harm to the cat. Going through this right now with 4 stray cats in my subdivision.

put a couple of mouse traps upside down but armed on the roof. The cat will trip one, causing it to fly up and it should scare it off without harming the cat or your cars roof. It sometimes works keeping cats away.

Check harware store for repellants. I've seen snake away, deer repellant, etc... A few other ideas I read about:
Lavender, lemon-thyme, and a Coleus Canina is are known for having heavy smells that keep cats away. Plant them in your garden, around your home, or around the perimeter of your yard.
  • Emptying used tea leaves in the garden soil can also work. This natural remedy will not harm the soil.
  • Sprinkle cayenne pepper around the yard or the area where you want to keep cats away. You might also try coffee grounds or pipe tobacco.

Unless the cat gets so scared that he digs his claws in... Then you have bigger problems than just cat hair.
I hope you get it figured out.. If the owner can't control their animal, then a capture release would be your next option. Tell the owner about it, and that it is damaging your property and you will take all necessary steps to prevent that.

Maybe you could try a fake animal statue like a dog or a deer?

Catfood soaked in antifreeze!

Just kidding, I would trap it and take it to the SPCA since the owner doesn't seem to care.

This is easy,
Call your local animal control,
Explain the damage to your car,
That you've talked to the owner, and he refuses to control his cat,
Ask them to set a trap next to your car port, and remove the cat.

Humane, legal and the owner will pay to get his cat back.
Good luck,

Or just get a yellow lab like we have,

Cats will do that. For one thing, outdoor cats have a relatively short lifespan, so at any rate, the problem will eventually solve itself. Do you live in town? Most towns have "leash laws." In your situation, if the owner won't help you, I would call animal control and let them take over. It might not make you popular with your neighbor, but pet owners need to take responsibility for their animals. I have three cats (don't ask why, because I have no good answer), but they all stay indoors 100% of the time to keep fleas out of the house and cat crap out my yard.
