So sad to hear this news. Hopefully they get another car for that line. If not I hope the retirement incentives will allow those affected to retire comfortably and enjoy that phase of their life. My 5th gen is one of the best built vehicles I have ever owned and that is directly because of the dedication of the men and women that work in the Oshawa plant. I would not hesitate to purchase any vehicle built there and I wish nothing but the best for those affected.

I see both sides to it. I see the need to "protect" workers from company's to a degree, but it seems you don't get much help unless you fall into a minority class. But they also

People are waking up though and realizing the union has sold them down the river with their healthcare. I almost fell out of my chair laughing at one quarterly meeting when they said they messed up and where considering supporting republican candidates. The union dose a lot of stupid shit out here but I have also seen a lot of stupid crap the casinos tried to pull over shut down.
Unions started as part of a communist movement? Unions were formed way back when industry was becoming a means of work. Where is the communist movement n that ?

It is hard to tell from that "sentence," but I think you are asking why it matters where Louis Chevrolet was born. If that is your question, simply put it doesn't; at least not any more than where the 5th Gen Camaro was assembled. These workers did a fantastic job on the two I've owned, and I hope they can keep their jobs with GM.

By the same talking , what can you say about this new guy in the block
Again, not sure what you are saying, but if he wants to hire them to assemble Teslas, that would be great. I think they would prefer to stay with GM, but a job is a job. On the otherhand, if he is planning to send them on a one-way trip to space I suspect he won't get many takers.

To the Canadian workers getting the axe: You have only to look to your Union leadership (Formerly the CAW) for selling you down the river! If you had the data available you’d most likely see that most if not all of these 1000+ workers are on the higher end of the pay scale. The union negotiations with manufacturers to reduce labor costs years ago in Detroit has come due and the union has to make good on their promises!

But don’t worry Oshawa you’ll get a new vehicle line to produce after your union enters negotiations again in 2016 but... it’ll be manned by fresh workers off the streets making just over minimum wage still paying union dues and unable to afford the vehicles they’re building! The sad part is, they’ll be grateful to just have a job that doesn’t require them to ask… “For here or to go?”

I’ve worked in the auto industry all of my adult life and I know that I’ll never be able to retire from my company the way my parents did and their parents did before them because of Union interference and greed over the years!!!

Why cant you retire...if you have been in the industry that long you have been making good wages...if you plan it right you can retire from your job with a pension and money put into your retirement porfolio. It wont be the same as our parents.. The current older workforce are the last of the full time....full benefits...full pension ...group of workers. The people entering the general workforce no have some real battles ahead.

Everyone is equal, everyone gets the same pay. For the quick and dirty head line of it, do some digging. There is a lot of the ideology that is rooted there.
