CAFE average is for the whole fleet, not individual cars so they would have to see other, higher MPG cars to balance it.

LT1 is going to be the SS engine.

CAFE is probably going end the muscle car wars or the price will.

In response to #3...GM has already stated they got better fuel economy with the larger 6.2 than using a smaller displacement due to displacement on demand.

So if fuel economy is number one...why would they want a smaller engine?

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the 6.2 in next Camaro. Either that, or a hopped up version of the 5.3 with 400+HP/TQ.

...or the TT-V6 @ 420... Will the "Leno" Camaro live, after all?

The "weighted average" is correct...but for every car that AVERAGES less than 30, you have to sell one that AVERAGES OVER 40...and how many of those arrows are in GM's quiver? In what volumes? How many even get 40 hwy?

There's the dilemma...

You hit the nail on the head. The way GM supports cars like the Camaro is because for every one they sale there are 10-12 Cruze sales. When you factor in the Sparks and Sonics you can see how they can support trucks and performance cars now. The question is how will they do that in the future when they will need sale a lot of 60+ MPG cars to balance out the trucks and Camaros. Fortunately they are banking lots of credits now, so they will have some wiggle room.

If it turns to a hp contest then GM may lose this battle once again. You see how they did with the fourth gens. GM really dropped the ball with that.

The 4th gens? They had more power then the Mustangs of the time and ran close to a second faster to 60 and in the 1/4.

LT1 makes 455 HP and 460 lb*ft. Hopefully the 475 HP Coyote is nothing more than a rumor.

^^thats BS numbers. Its the same engine the CTS-V have. You got fooled by GM marketing, like in 1998-02 years; the Camaro was pushing more and more hp, from 305-345 LOL, while the Vette had the 350hp LS1 right from the start hahaha

By the way, my LT1 HP guess was absolutly freaking right ahhaha in your face guys!! 46x with the NPP(that gives zero HP on the Camaro but 6hp on the Vette..that BS again!) The most impressive thing from the TL1 is the crazy torque curve; its gonna be really hard to beat!!

When Ford gained 50hp with DI? Oh yeah, its just a rumor or a wish from the Mustang guys.

I highly doubt a 475hp Coyote engine would not be anywhere close to the torque curve of the LT1 IMO. This alone would make a superb duel between equal weight Camaro-Mustang with the 455 VS 475hp estimated numbers.

Plp are assuming the Mustang is gonna be lighter than it is right now, but an IRS is a lot heavier than SRA...Good luck with that.

and I think the mustang has to hit more strict safety regulations soon, whereas the Camaro already does.

Agree about the TQ curve comment.

Even if the LT1 is down on HP a bit, its TQ will make up the difference for sure.
