Potential Camaro Buyer Help!!!

Hi everybody my name is Aybek, im 19 and am about to start as a freshman at Ohio State for mechanical engineering. I was promised by my parents that if I got a scholarship, They would get me any reasonable car that I wanted, and my first choice is a Camaro. I would like to start off by saying all of you who own one are very lucky, it is absolutely my favorite car.

Now, about the car itself. My parents live overseas, but my mom wants to be in Cincinnati for my freshman year just in case I do something such as hurt myself or etc. (Which I probably will) During my freshman year, she needs to drive so the car has to be an automatic. I found a couple of cars close by, none of the dealers even budged with their prices and some even gave me the cold shoulder, just because I'm young. What I want is a 2SS, but my dad would rather get a 1SS. The car will be automatic, with an RS package for sure. I found out that there is about a 3-4 thousand dollar difference between a 1SS auto w/RS and a 2SS auto w/RS. Do you think its not worth the money?? I do, but I need to convince my dad. Also, here are the cars that I personally saw and even test drove one.

This is a 2SS w/RS, its the one I like the most being black on black and its 37,450 http://www.mccluskeychevrolet.com/ne...659cb80eb9.htm

This one is a 1SS that I test drove, wo/RS at 33,260 http://www.mccluskeychevrolet.com/ne...ed223a8935.htm

This is a 2SS w/ RS and sunroof my parents like the color better but its also expensive at 39,305 http://www.jakesweeneychevy.com/Vehi...ails/736471553

And finally this is a 2011 model year 2SS w/RS and sunroof and is also black which I like but also is 39,035 http://www.jakesweeneychevy.com/Vehi...ails/774025293

What do you guys think of these cars? Does anyone of them stand out as a good deal? Maybe my dad could bring the price down a bit, I still believe the dealers didn't take me as seriously as they would a normal customer.

Thank you for any help guys, and please don't flame me for being a 19 year old who wants an SS.

I REALLLYYYY do like the black one with RS, but my parents just don't like black on a car, and I've also heard that the new camaro's are having problems with paint chipping and such, since black is the most unforgiving and thinnest color I'm kind of swaying away from it as well. Do you have any problems with the paint, chipping or swirling? After being bought, it will stay in a closed garage at home, just outside when driving or parked at a mall or something.

Why not get a 2LT? It is still a sweet car and plenty of power and cheaper than the 1SS. Most people will never use or even know how to use the power of an SS much less at 19. Not trying to flame you or anything, but it is just a fact. The V6 are not the gutless V6s of old. You will have plenty of fun. Use the extra money saved and do some mods.

Enjoy!

A new Camaro is not a reasonable college car. Sorry, it's just not. I drove a POS throughout college and grad school. Everyone should, helps you appreciate that nice new car when you finally get it.

Agree and disagree....I drove a POS with 200k miles on it as well

If the kid earned a full ride I could see it. However an SS is not reasonable for a college student. CERTAINLY not a 2SS....

The V6 in my opinion is reasonable...the price is reasonable...the gas mileage is reasonable and you still get great performance. a 30K+ vehicle for any college student is a little absurd.... especially when most everyone spends all of college walking or riding a bike. Have them get you the LT and get a nice apartment to boot...that is where the good time is in college....

Dude you should get a 2LT. I am a 19 year old going to school in the spring and I am paying cash (no help from my parents). I am paying for insurance and for gas as well. The V8 is badass, but it's not an ideal car to have going into college when you barley have time to work. Personally I wanted a SS, but I found (with help from other Camaro5 members(THANKS GUYS!!! )that the V8 is money I shouldn't be spending when I should be saving instead. If you want the look of a V8 then substitue for the V8 bumper and place it on the 2LT. Just don't put SS anywhere on it or your going to look like a phony and the SS owners will eat you alive!! Seriously though.. The V6 is plenty for you going to college. If you get a V8 going to a major university.. Your only putting a bigger target on your forehead and car. I'm going to Oklahoma State University.. OSU as well lol.. But I don't have to be worried about people messing up my car because Stillwater people are very friendly. I don't know how people are at Ohio University, but I hope they aren't stuck up jealous people like OU students are.. Take it from a guy your age in a similar position as you are in yourself. Save some money and get a 2LT.

Well tomorrow morning we're going to go to 2 different dealerships and have a look at some Camaro's. I will try out the 2LT just for you fellow Camaro5 members, I never really considered it but I do have my heart set on a SS. I just moved back from Turkey where I spent my high school years (Otherwise I'm a native Cincinnatian) and there were no speed limits there, nobody cared how I drove. I'm not proud to say I've done some very stupid stuff but thankfully never got into a serious accident. In Ohio I drive conservatively, going the speed limit and would never consider racing on the streets. I may be young but I'm not a moron. I would however love to take it to the track. I do plan on attending either Skip-Barber which is kind of far away, or going up to the Mid-Ohio race track where Acura sponsors sports driving schools. I do value your guys opinions, but like I said my heart is set on a SS so we'll just have to see. I will definetely keep you posted on what I do in the end. By the way, forgetting the 2LT for a second, does anybody consider any of the camaro's I posted first as good deals??? Just wondering, thanks everybody for your replies.

We just got back from Columbia Chevrolet and I'm pleased to say I tried out a 2LT. My dad had given up on a SS anyway, and said he didn't want me driving that powerful of a car. So even though its not final yet, in the next couple of days I should get a Silver 2011 Camaro 2LT. Its an auto, and loaded to the gills. Apparently '11 models also get a HUD, which I really liked. The only thing I didn't like is the engine noise, but I guess I can live with it(It doesn't seem fit for a camaro if you ask me). I'd like to thank you for your suggestions and will hopefully post up a couple of pictures in the following days.

Your dad is very wise.

Scholarships can be lost....much more quickly than they are won. Not a few have been (and will be) lost to Horsepower, Babes, and Beer. Your dad has saved you the temptation of the first one. Well, to be fair, 312 HP is still a bit of a danger....but not to the tune of 400. As for Babes...well, the Camaro is a chick magnet in any trim....so that's one strike against you. Beer? You're on your own.

Enjoy the car.

If Mom and Dad are going to do the buying get the 1SS or the 2SS. You will for sure enjoy the power. I could not get the dealerships to deal with me, I refused to pay MSRP when the economy as soft as it is. I shopped E-BAY for about 3 months, a thousand mile each direction. (new and used) Located a 2010 2SS RS with 1096. miles, ran a car fax on it(no problems), flew to dealership and paid 33,000. +TTL and drove. Get what you want and can live with. Have fun and safe driving.

Congrats on the 2LT SIM. I hope this baby is "home" in Cincy with your mom most of the time as most college student won't respect a brand new 2011 vehicle of any kind (door dings, keying the paint, etc.).

Good luck in school. Go Bucks.
