3.73 for manual?

So I am thinking about getting gears for my car and I mentioned 4.10 to my tuner/mechanic and he said to go with 3.73. He said 4.10 would be to much. From what I've read on here 4.10 is the way to go for manual, just wanted your input.

4.10 is not too much. At 70-75 mph you will be running just a tick under 2000 rpm in a M6 equipped Camaro and you will realize an equivalent gain of approximately 20% or 84 rear wheel lb.-ft. of torque. We have had several customers go even further to 4.33s.

If you have any questions feel free to hit me up.

Let me know if you decide to sell your stock gears.

Go with the 4.10's, you will be happy. I think I saw you in another post, you have a cam don't you? If so and you plan to stay NA, the 4.10's are what you need.

Yes I have a 229/236 cam and plan to stay NA. 4.10 is the way to go.

That's a great question! Thanks for asking it, now here is a follow up question for the tech guys.

If you put 4.10's in, do you need to upgrade the axles and the drive shaft at all? With the added torque it would seem to put more stress on the stock parts.

I am installing a supercharger in conjunction with the LS9 cam and headers. Someone has recommended the 3.73 gears to me. Do you think it will work well? Should I go with 4.10 or stay stock?

My goal is mid 600s at the wheels, for now. Eventually, I intend to build the motor and up the boost.

For a Camaro that puts more than 600hp to the wheels I usually recommend 3.73.

It depends on what else you have done and how you use your car. You might consider upgrading the axles if you are making substantially more power than stock but you can always just hold on to you money until they snap.

Thank you. I have heard that the gears really wake the car up. I tend to drive agressively and both 5th and 6th gear seem too tall for my driving habits.

They really do. The problem once you start getting into higher power levels is traction and breaking parts. You can go to the 4.10 but you really need to have all of your supporting modifications in place. No corner cutting.

With 20 inch rims and stock tire dimensions, anyone know what ratio would then require you to shift into 5th to finish the 1/4? I'm figuring that ANY steeper gear will require me to shift into 4th to make it across the line, but my personal preference is that I don't even want to think about shifting to 5th at WOT. I was reading an article on a new 5.0 that made it into the 10's, but they had to shift to 5th do do it and they didn't mention gear ratio specifics and I don't know how to do the math.

It's been a month or so since I checked around, but I think the only thing out there for the V6 is 3.55's.

Judging by your signature, it sounds like you have a nice set up.
