I specially ordered a Z28! (unlike all of you)

Now that I got your attention with that,

Hi all! this is a wonderful place that I have been continually viewing til stupid hours of the night when I cant sleep... I love it...

But back to the Z28, (yes it has relevance, just read on)


So, I am having an old truck restored at a local shop and stopped in randomly to check on the progress. When I got into the body shop, I was greeted by the foreman, one of the salesmen, and a gentleman I did not know. We all exchanged hellos, save for the guy I didnt know. (he was very quiet) The body shop foreman informed me that this particular man, in his late 50's I would guess, was the owner of a Z06 Vette which he had mentioned to me some days earlier at lunch. I looked at him and complimented his taste and mentioned something about the "7.0 litre dry sump being an impressive engine", to which he just kinda looked at me and said nothing. Preventing the uncomfortable pause from beginning, the new truck salesman quickly informed the older gentleman that I was the guy that had a "new Camaro on order", to which the up til then quiet man finally spoke, but not before sizing me up blatantly, "Ive got one on order too" he said. Then added, "But mine is a Z28 special package". I very friendly like said, "oh z28?, you mean the SS? right?" which he immediately became defensive and blasted back, "no, I said a special ordered Z28... I have it pre ordered at (insert local dealership)!" I then said... "ok... I'm pretty sure that there is no z28 model for the 2010 model year" he said back, "well there is, its on the internet", to which by this point I was losing my cool and decided that I wasnt gonna be one upped by this jerk so i fired back with "and they also have the Trans Am on the internet too, but we know where that is" to which he became irate and said, "dont you believe me??? I have it ORDERED" to which i responded with... "well, im sorry, but I will believe it when i see it" He then gritted down and said, "you dont tell me anything, I dont need to listen to you!" so as to cool the situation, and to preserve his very apparent fragile state of sanity i tried to lower the tension by moving on and asking... "well what color is yours that you ordered?" to which he quickly and angrily said back "well what does it matter, you say they dont exist! I dont have time to listen to you, Im getting out of here." then he started walking away pissed off, but not before he turned back and said, "and that mouth is gonna get you and ass whipping", to which I calmly and quickly replied "take a number".

I never knew that I could almost get in a fight over something so trivial...

So i was mad at this point and stormed back to the body shop office, the opposite way he went, and got on their internet and found the GM FAQ that plainly states that NO Z28 MODEL IS PLANNED yet basically. printed it off, but not before the salesman who escorted the pissed off guy out came back and handed me a sheet of paper that he had highlighted. What was highlighted was 2011 Z28. As i read more in depth, the article went into farther detail of this "rumored" z28, which i circled with a pen and handed it back... you should have seen the look on the salesman's face... only if the old guy would have been there too.

Pretty epic story for a first post new member huh?

There could be a 2011 Z28. We don't know for sure. But I doubt he was able to order one yet even if there was one.The Z28 WAS definitly a rumor for 2010 though.

I hope the dealership didn't "scam" this guy and tell him they were taking an order for the 2011 Z28 a year plus in advance so he would be first. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Incidentally I have a "friend" who tells some tall tales. We all know hes full of shit all the time so we just accept it. About 2 months after I put my deposit down at my dealer (June) he came to me and said his friend got him high on the list at another dealer for the "SLP special edition", it was going to be 600 hp and about $60k, and don't tell anyone about it he doesn't want anyone to know... I said "surrrree no problem buddy!"

I believe there would be nothing stopping a dealer from getting a 2010 Camaro, adding ground effects, the LS7 engine, etc, etc, badging it as a Tom's Chevy Dealership Z28 Special Edition (ala Yenko Chevrolet) and selling it to some guy for $75k. So the old guy could be right and wrong at the same time.

Welcome aboard 496BB! Very interesting first post too.

Not all salesmen/women are as misinformed as your "friend." In all the years I've dealt with them, for the most part, they're friendly and well informed.

Was this salesman a younger gentleman? I ask because my only "issue" I experienced was in dealing with a young salesman, who when I showed him the dealer invoice for the SS I was thinking of ordering from another dealer, laughed at the price quote and walked away.

him - "They won't get you an SS at that price."

me - "Thanks. Have a nice day."

a few months later - I drive my SS to the dealer, talked to this guy, and walked him out to my brand new SS, where I showed him the paperwork relecting the deal I received elsewhere.

Some of these guys are too wise, in their own minds, for their own good.

All I can say is was it really worth getting all that upset about?

When in a position of disagreement like that, there are other things in life really worth getting upset over. (Starving children, people dying of various diseases, war, etc. )

Take it easy it isn't worth having a conniption(sp) over something like that.

I would be much more worried whether or not GM will be in strong enough financial shape to get this car on the street for a number of years.

Oh i have heard of the SLP edition... it stands for "Stupid Lyin' Prick" runs off of methane from all the BS thats how it gets the 600hp

This kind of thing must be erradicated if GM is going to be able to swim through these rough economic waters. Top notch customer service and telling customers the truth is more important than ever now.
