The G8 GT will have the L76.(L98 is an Australian engine) L76 is a Gen4 6.0L v8 with Active Fuel Management(V4 mode) and Variable Valve Timing. besides these differences(and the associated computrer tweaks that go with it) the biggest difference between the two that affects power output is the LS2 has 10.9:1 cr and the L76 has a significantly lower 9.65:1 cr.

Yeah, the L76 is setup to run on 87octane pump gas. A simple tune would probably
have it knocking on the 400 hp door

So since it's pretty much a "de-tuned LS2" from what I've read, and what you've said. Couldn't a simple head-swap bring it back to it's LS2 style glory?

The LS7 is great, but a low production engine. Give me an LS3, then bore and stroke it. No need to spring for the supercharger

Its not a detuned LS2, its a small displacement low compression LS3, it has BETTER heads than an LS2, all you need to make it smoke LS2's is a piston upgrade.

Just thought i'd let you know this is an exact replica of the Australian SS Commodore. Which was designed and built from scratch (no chassis from the European Omega) by Holden. And this was also the base for the G8. It has a 6.0L Gen4 V8 with 270Kw(370 bhp)

You can find out more here: www.holden.com.au/www-holden/

Here is the ss. And do you recognise the other???? (GTO ring a bell, also based off Holden [Monaro])

Also is a picture of the GTS which has a 6.0L Gen4 also, but with 307Kw(415bhp) see: www.hsv.com.au

Those are some sweet rides....As someone else was asking what kind of vehicles we would consider besides the Camaro if it wasn't built....take a look above. Love the pic of the GTO w/ the original GTO in the reflection.

I see the regular Lumina over here in Kuwait all the time. It looks pretty nice. I like the proportions of it. I haven't seen the Lumina SS yet. I do see the older Lumina SS quite a bit. There's also a Lumina SS Coupe (Monaro/GTO) here on base owned by one of the civilians working here. They are all badged as Chevys for the Arabic market. The Chevy Caprice(Holden Caprice) looks really nice. In my opinion they need to import that to the states and bring the Caprice/Impala back. Then GM can have a decent cop car again. if you go to gmarabia.com you can check them all out.

But I'll admit, that Lumina SS on the front page of GMInsidenews has an even more appealing look to me.

That car reminds me of an '08 mini-cadillac CTS. Compare the crease in the front fender, the small gill in the front fender, and the general shape of the fog light openings.

I like those rims, too. But if I had a choice (which I think we might), I'd absolutely die for the Convertible's rims

They'd be a bit$h to keep clean, what with the brake residue, but I'd spend 10 minutes everyday polishing them...

They're not really that much different than these to keep clean. It's actually pretty easy to clean and keep chrome clean.

I'm a new guy, so pardon the virgin response. I've got an old heap that has a power to weight ratio of 6.4 to 1. All this speculation of this engine or that engine is confusing me. All I want from the new Camaro is, BIG torque and tires. STIFF springs and shocks, and the lightest curb weight possible from non exotic materials. I already test drove two 6.1 "hemis". You can make a sandwich before the horsepower comes on. Perhaps, too much weight, and not enough torque? COME ON Chevy! Give me torque!

I'm new to this sight, but I think the LS7 is a longshot for the Camaro. Why would GM want to compete with itself (camaro/Vet)? I thought the Whole idea was to bring back an ICON, the Camaro, and make it affordable. Sure the Shelby has 500 HP, but thats limited edition. The average Gearhead can afford the Mustang GT. Thats where I think GM will go with the SS. Like the GT, the SS will be a fast car, but aftermarket companies will jump at the chance to produce upgrades to make them Better/Faster. Anyway if you have the money you can costom order ANYTHING! wELL SAID LSxcellent ON THE LS7.

Welcome to the site!

Did you read thru the whole thread? Just Curious, because it was put to rest that the LS7 won't be in the Maro unless it's a special editions or something...I only asked because I did sorta the same thing - I read the first page of a thread, and responded - only to find that my response had already been answered on a page I hadn't seen

The LS7 motor will come in the SS model and the Z28 will come with a 327, and this I got from my friends father who owns a Chevy dealership.

This was Scott directly reponding to an article about a GMPP 4th gen with an LS7 in it. The article said: "The other reason the motorheads at GMPP built this beast is because the coming '09 Camaro will probably have an SS edition available, which will be powered by this same engine right off the showroom floor."

Take it as you will.

Anyways, Welcome to the site, and it's nice to know your friends father owns a dealership. you should ask him how he plans to price the Camaro's he recieves, and post his dealership up in the appropriate thread . Could be useful info!

Dragon already corrected, but I just wanted to add that we are pretty used to getting a lot of "my friend's sister's boyfriend's second-uncle knows the guy who mows the lawn for the mailroom guy of GM's secret plans office". Granted, that's an exaggeration to your claim, but we follow very closely to what come from GM's big names, and through many stories we've been hearing/experiencing, the dealerships know squat about anything right now, just like the rest of us.

Welcome, and enjoy your stay! You can take some good info back to your friend and you can both show his dad who's boss! I know that was something I always loved doing when I was a kid.

It would be nice to see the LS7 or LSA in a Z28 iteration in a couple years. If GM gets out of this mess and the "green" environmentalists haven't taken over the industry and the Camaro does well, I see a possibility there..
